“Is there a cover-up culture in the NHS?”
If you read one thing today make it this. Shocking in depth article in @thesundaytimes by @JCalvertST@Arbuthnott with DAUK’s interview on whistleblowing and the need for a #learnnotblame culture.

Dr Rinesh Parmar from @TheDA_UK says the Bawa Garba case was a lighting rod for the medical profession both in the UK and internationally. It has led to doctors not wanting to write written reflections.
Stop moaning and get a grip, doctors told by their leader’
DAUK Co-Founder @sbattrawden speaks to @thetimes on this article by @Smyth_Chris saying this will be a blow to the morale of doctors who have been working themselves into the ground this winter.

How can we reach parity of esteem when we don't appropriately fund our services? Environments I have worked in have been completely unfit for purpose - all known about by those with the power to act but not acted on
“Doctors have repeatedly told us they do not feel cared for by their workplaces"
Dr Samantha Batt-Rawden, @sbattrawden co-founder of Doctors’ Association UK said the number of staff reporting work related stress should be a "red flag to this government"

“Too often yoga and mindfulness are put forward to try and address this but these programmes will not fix the core issue. What NHS staff need are real improvements to their working conditions if the government has any hope of stemming the haemorrhage of staff out the NHS.”
The number of NHS staff reporting being unwell due to work related stress has increased yet again. In the #NHSStaffSurvey reported today >40% of staff reported feeling unwell due to work related stress. This no has been steadily rising since 2016 #thread

We’re hearing from distressed #juniordoctors who are finding that Oriel has crashed once again as the ST3 application deadline approaches.
Now an annual occurrence, how is this acceptable @NHS_HealthEdEng @DavidBehan15@hee_ian?
Urgent review & deadline extension required!
Thank you to @NHS_HealthEdEng for confirming that the application window for applications has been extended to Monday 24th February following a request from DAUK and the JDC. See their formal response to DAUK and our comment here:

@MattHancock We agree. Could you therefore respond to this dossier of stories from 600 of our NHS doctors who are ‘burned out and broken’ which very sadly includes stories of scores taking their own lives. Doctors need your support. https://t.co/E2n7jcQ2MK
As MP @Dr_PhilippaW says, it's indisputable that Whistleblowers are serving patients and the public. They've been ignored in practically every major NHS scandal. Paterson could have been stopped 8 years earlier. Look at @WestSuffolkNHS@EKHUFT@sathNHS
Yet it shouldn’t be! Bristol, Mid Staffs, Morecombe Bay, Gosport - in every major NHS scandal there have been #Whistleblowers who were ignored or punished for raising concerns. Many lives could have been saved if they had been listened to!
