@Hobo_Web Also, do you not think the formula stops a bit early? More sources go into context than get cited, and memory probably has an effect at selection time. Isn’t that the part classic SEO maybe doesn’t fully cover?
Agree retrieval gates citation, and on entity association. I struggle with PageRank governing weights and fan-out. Links shape what’s crawled, then filtering and training work on text. As i understand it QFO are written by the model from the prompt, its memory and earlier results
@dannydenhard Good points especially how merchants and platforms will defend their moats. I can’t see either how brands who have spent decades cultivating their own 1st party data and positioning are just gonna hand that over to a bot that can easily be manipulated. What a time to be alive.
@Marie_Haynes@AndrewGirdwood Agreed on the knowledge work. I’m impressed but it’s still very clunky for anyone not in Google Workspace and its presentation draft attempts are only amusing level at this stage.
It’s still frightening when experienced folk repeat Google messaging verbatim. Yes sometimes it’s useful but it’s mostly designed to spread FUD. Magical systems for detecting X and Y when we know this simply isn’t the case at web scale for a lot of things. Why ? Because we lived it for the last 20+ years. Yes, they built the world’s best search engine but not infallible one by any means.
Looks like Google may have switched from blocking scrapers to instead serving poisoned responses. Very interesting strategic move IMO. Far more damaging, and much more difficult to counter than getting blocked. Have to be honest - smart change.
@Kevin_Indig Almost reads like pre-cached fanouts from another search or it’s just regular AI mode with no links and then it’s rather stupid lost opportunity from Google.
@top5seo Yup and I can see that’s the ideal solution. The only challenge is going to be how large brands with multiple stakeholders manage to coordinate that at scale. Feels like it needs automation. At the moment it’s organisationally beyond many. Still plenty of work to do for us :)
@seosmarty It’s probably jolly good for revenue.
More paid inventory available via new AI ads on brand demand that was previously free, if the brand choose not to run brand ads before, hard luck now your forced too.
