A carpenter who helped restore Notre-Dame after the devastating 2019 fire was granted permission to marry inside the cathedral, becoming part of its first wedding ceremony in 30 years.

A remarkable exception was made when 29-year-old master carpenter Martin Lorentz was allowed to marry his fiancée, Jade, inside Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. Lorentz had spent three years hand-carving the massive oak beams used to rebuild “the Forest”—the cathedral’s intricate medieval roof structure, which was destroyed in the devastating 2019 fire. Because Notre-Dame is classified as a national monument rather than a parish church, private weddings have been prohibited for decades, making theirs the first ceremony held there since 1995.

In recognition of Lorentz’s dedication to the cathedral’s restoration, Archbishop Laurent Ulrich personally granted the rare permission. Around 500 guests attended the ceremony, including family, friends, and many of the craftsmen who helped bring Notre-Dame back to life. As the newlyweds left the cathedral, Lorentz’s fellow carpenters formed a traditional guard of honor, raising their axes overhead in a moving tribute to the man who helped rebuild one of France’s most treasured landmarks.

Every single movie, etc. that has action and a female lead tells girls that they can beat up guys two to three times their size. And they believe it even once they're adults and should know better

He thinks because he's not athletic-- he's a video game nerd-- that he's puny and weak, when really he's 2-3x as strong as his 10-year-old athletic sister.

In my homeland, an apology is a solemn debt carried for a week.

In America I bumped a man's cart and began the proper ceremony of remorse.

"You're good," he said, and walked away.

The case was closed before my first bow was complete. I stood there holding unused shame like a fish nobody would take.

So I tested the magic words. I apologized for standing near a door. "You're good." For breathing loudly in an aisle. "You're good." For existing on a Tuesday. "You're good, man."

Two words that forgive anything, instantly, forever. This is the most powerful spell I have encountered in this country, and they hand it out for free.

Yesterday a man knocked my coffee flying and looked ready to die.

I now walk the streets hoping to be bumped. I want to forgive. I have so much mercy stored up and nowhere legal to put it.

I spent time inside a “trans help” group posing as a minor who needed to hide everything from my parents.

The adults in the group did not pause. They did not redirect me to a doctor. They did not suggest telling a parent. They gave me sourcing instructions, supplier links, and workflows for obtaining DIY hormones discreetly.

Adults, coaching a child on how to medically transition behind their parents’ backs.
