Why does Spa score low?

Below average for state transition density, which makes up the Layout component. This is the number of state changes normalized to track length (=SUM(braking, traction, corner count) / track length).

Spa would need considerably more corners and/or braking traction zones to score as high as Monaco.

Corner Speed Variety component is made up of the relative range and coefficient of variation. Spa has some cornering speed clustering between 260 and 310 kph. Corner speed variation variable scores low, while relative range scores averagely.

Braking and traction components score similarly because heavy braking zones tend to be followed by heavy traction zones. Again, Spa had a relatively low frequency of these zones for how long a lap is. Its scores average.

Margin for error component is completely subjective. These things are not derivable from telemetry data. Spa has a lot of runoff and fewer gravel traps although they've added a few recently. The unforgiveness of Spa is mainly focused in Raidillon and Pouhon as a factor of speed.

As for the deployment strategy:

I include a rough estimate of a neutral lap. Again, no simulations are done here. It is just color coding based on my intuition. In fact, I am currently taking it upon myself to 1) learn Python to automate this process and 2) long down the road from now be able to do some predictive modeling.

I expect Eau Rouge, Raidillon, to be treated similarly to Copse, where there is a reset in the power reduction entering the Kemmel straight. You can expect this to be the case whenever two straights are separated by a high-speed corner that is taken flat or with a small lift.

S2 is interesting.

This is where time spent in a limited-grip regime peaks across the lap. Naturally, this is where harvesting can be done and energy can be saved with low deployment. Therefore, you can expect the PLPP exception zones to cluster in S2.

I expect little to no superclipping in S2. 1) The straights are quite short, and 2) You do not want to hit the recharge quota too early in the lap. A qualifying lap will likely be different.
