“Never forget that we were enslaved in this country longer than we have been free. Never forget that for 250 years black people were born into chains—whole generations followed by more generations who knew nothing but chains." Ta-Nehisi Coates #BHM
@InLivingMuller My sister just sent this to me from some Facebook page from my hometown and I read it 6 times before I read the name and realized I knew the guy who said it 😂
So much of tonight’s #DNC was about making a convincing case for the middle (read: white folks) to believe in Biden. But these on-the-fence folks just rattle every nerve that I have because if you still need to be convinced, you just don’t give a fuck. Or, you’re racist.
For everyone wondering why I didn’t wear the cleats tonight, @MLB threatened to eject me and suspend me and levy unprecedented fines against me if I did. I couldn’t put my teammates at risk like that. Earlier this year, MLB said players could put whatever they wanted on their
$175-$200 for a virtual conference when the presenters don’t even get paid & still have to register? During a pandemic where we’re all in brand new learning environments and need extra support? Not participating. @NCTM can fuck right off with that. #math#edchat#DistanceLearning
Having the majority of the population suddenly falling behind at VERY different rates will be a wake up call to the education community and I am here for it.
I know it can feel inappropriate to focus on the good coming from Covid-19, as an educator I think it’s important to remind myself that this will change standards and expectations for years to come and I think that’s fantastic.
Also, standards. How can we call something a standard when less than 30% of the population can meet it?!?! And the majority of that 30% are upper-middle class white students. As a math teacher, I find this especially hard to grasp. #edchat#TeachFromHome#teachertwitter#teacher
School Districts....
Please, please, please include teachers when forming committees that will decide when and how to safely reopen our schools. #EdChat
Cleaning out my classroom today and putting kids’ belongings into sealed plastic bags to hand back to them in a drive thru line next week. This is so surreal. So, so surreal.
Ok the assignment on #neverhaveievernetflix where they make an app that would have been helpful during historical events is epic. I need to keep that for later.
As teachers (& parents), it is important for us to allow students to fail, NOT MAKE A BIG DEAL OF IT, provide a little support, and watch them try again. This could also currently be true of Distance Learning for teachers 😏 #DontReact#EdChat
