I think we can all agree that general practice is having a really tough time. Despite having worked my whole life in hospitals I believe general practice should be at the centre of our NHS..
Furthermore GP’s should be properly resourced and funded to care for their local communities - obesity, dementia, strokes and heart disease are all increasing in prevalence and the population is ageing - the NHS is on its knees we need an urgent re-think
The only practical solution is to put the GP at the centre and heart of our NHS with a 24/7
responsibility to care for their patients as close to home as possible. This requires significant additional funding.
Currenty we have too many 24/7 services provided by consultants in local hospitals. A new
emphasis on daytime multidisciplinary treatment and assessment units (0800-2000) is
required without the financial obligation to provide 24/7 care in all district general hospitals.
Winter jasmine, Jasminum nudiflorum, is already in flower. It is easy to grow but does need support unless you let it scramble over other bushes which is what it does in China where it was found in 1844 by the Scottish plant collector Robert Fortune.
There are so many berries on the sea buckthorn bushes at Gullane bents you can hardly see the leaves. Sea buckthorn oil allegedly reduces the three major signs of ageing skin - Wrinkles, Fine Lines and Age Spots. #medicinal plants #KSBscotland#coastalflowers#northberwick
Population immunity through natural infection in normal everyday life in young low-risk people is a strategy worth considering. We cannot sabotage the education and well being of children and young people who are at very low risk of serious illness with covid 19.
This is the Bass Rock (filmed from Isle of May) and home to worlds largest Northern Gannet colony in the world with over 130,000 pairs (the white dots are the birds!)
The native biting stonecrop, Sedum acre, in a local wall. Sometimes called wallpepper due to the bitter tasting fluid in its leaves (acre = acrid). It contains alkaloids so not to be eaten though bees make use of its flowers. @ELCouncil@PlantlifeScot@caley_rchs#ourbloom
The 2018 pallet celebrated 70 years of the NHS and medicinal plants, then invited the public to show their support for the NHS by clicking a counter. By the end of the show over 20,000 people had done so. #northberwick@caley_rchs @RHSBloom @KSBScotland @NHS_Lothian
Saturday is traditionally a sports day so here are two sports themed pallets: the Open Golf Championship at Muirfield East Lothian in 2013 and Glasgow Commonwealth Games from 2014. #northberwick@caley_rchs @KSBScotland @ELCouncil @RHSBloom

No rain in April so we arranged an emergency supply for the new trees in the country park. James Miller and his colleague Jamie used their van’s storage tank to give each tree 2 litres of water while maintaining social distancing. #northberwick#ourbloom
