The bigger problem for Republicans is that Mamdani will preach socialism but govern like a moderate, deliver on affordability and 'prove' that socialism works. Enough of the hysteria, our focus should be on proving that capitalism delivers on affordability

Sane immigration policies is what most Americans are demanding, Miller should not confuse that with indifference and lack of empathy on the part of Americans. Sane policies not cruelty nor indifference is where most Americans are at.
Your history is off. The year 1929 was not when things became severe. The real problems began in 1931, which is why Benjamin Anderson called it "the tragic year." For four years Hoover intervened every way he could think of, and things only got worse. The 1932 interventions were especially disastrous.
The so-called deflation in 1920-21 was MUCH more pronounced than in the Great Depression, and we are told that that is supposed to make depressions especially severe. Yet it didn't, thanks to the laissez-faire approach Harding wisely adopted. In fact, Joseph Schumpeter said that the 1920-21 depression was proof that downturns are self-reversing by ordinary market forces.
What's more, by the time FDR came around, the economy had already turned a corner. By July 1932, the massive financial bubble of the 1920s had finally finished clearing out. Toxic debt had been purged, unviable banks had failed, and asset prices had bottomed out.
Historical data from the summer and fall of 1932 show commodity prices stabilizing, industrial production index numbers ticking upward, and freight car loadings increasing, all traditional signs that the business cycle was naturally correcting itself.
So of course FDR deserves the blame for the persistence of the Depression. It's incredible that we're still debating this. Every last thing he did interfered with the adjustments necessary for recovery.
Obama gave rise to Trump because he could satisfy no one, not the far left who where into climate change, the middle that wanted to see banks & co punished nor the other camp of evangelicals he tried to reach out to, leaving the whole country in a state of angst and malaise.
Cory Booker has lost the plot, his calculus is just off, he is making himself unpalatable to the people on the center by pandering to the people on the far left who will never accept him.
JD Vance on the Nixon renaissance:
"I'm actually fascinated by Nixon as a character in history...His historical legacy is enjoying a bit of a renaissance...If Watergate happened tomorrow, it would be like a 12 hour news story."
@TimRiceDC breaks down the Nixon renaissance ⬇️
Today, the left reveres 1619 as the year of America’s true founding. They dismiss the miracle of 1620, when our ancestors planted the seeds of self-governance on their historic voyage aboard the Mayflower. Their westward expedition would define the direction of the American destiny as trailblazers for freedom’s reign from coast to coast.
The perpetual hoax that demands that we view ourselves entirely through the lens of racial injustice dismisses our great legacy and history.
FDR is the most overrated president in American history and it is not close.
People treat him like a saint. The reality is he inherited a recession and turned it into the longest depression in the history of the developed world. Every other major economy on earth recovered faster than the United States did under FDR. Sit with that. We had the most resources, the most industry, the most capacity, and we recovered slower than countries that got bombed.
Unemployment was still 19% in 1938. Six years into the New Deal. Six years of "bold experimentation" and one in five Americans still could not find work.
Why? Because his policies were economically illiterate. The NIRA cartelized entire industries and made it illegal to lower prices during a deflationary collapse. He paid farmers to slaughter livestock and plow under crops while people stood in bread lines. He launched a war on business so aggressive that investment dried up because nobody knew what insane rule was coming next. Even his own Treasury Secretary, Henry Morgenthau, admitted in 1939 that they had spent enormous sums and "it does not work" and that unemployment was as high as when they started.
Then in 1937 his policies triggered a second brutal crash so embarrassing the textbooks gave it its own polite little nickname, the "Roosevelt Recession," so they would not have to attach his name to the failure in the obvious way.
A UCLA study in 2004 concluded the New Deal prolonged the Great Depression by roughly seven years. Seven years of extra suffering sold to you as heroism.
So what actually saved the economy? Not the alphabet agencies. Not the fireside chats. A world war. Twelve million men shipped overseas and the entire planet's industrial competition reduced to rubble. That is the "recovery." That is the legacy.
Strip away Pearl Harbor and FDR is a guy who took a bad recession and stretched it into a decade of misery with bad economics and a cult of personality. He is not ranked on results. He is ranked on the luck of being in the chair when Hitler invaded Poland.
Greatest marketing job in the history of the presidency. Nothing more.
It's not even just that FDR failed to fix the Great Depression. The New Deal state fundamentally altered the nature of America to be vastly more centralized, statist, and planned across the board. It set a model that was copied all around the world, because America was so tremendous in the first half of the 20th century that even misguided centralization could still accomplish absolutely monumental things (the federal government used to be a reasonably effective and even efficient operation filled with talented people, believe it or not!).
But America before the New Deal was a land with a prodigious capacity for self-organized local action. It's the stuff Tocqueville gushed about in Democracy in America. The New Deal state gradually eroded that capacity of Americans, and then the Great Society made it all worse. America went from a society where people solved their own problems to one where people looked to the government to do it. That's FDR's greatest legacy.
China was rigging its currency whilst Bush was obsessed with Saddam and the Taliban.
China was raiding corporate America whilst Obama was busy extracting concessions from it on climate change and Iran.
China was a dragon ready for a fight by the time Trump came along.
That Obama has never had to answer for being soft on China so it could play ball on stuff like climate change whilst China was having its way with Corporate America is just mind bending
Being soft on China and Russia, Letting Iran keep its proxies, elevating the UN and EU to a place of prominence without extracting any concession from them, all laid the framework for an assertive China, adventurous Russia, haughty UN and a spoiled EU. We are all paying the price
The deal Obama signed with Iran ON THE NUCLEAR ISSUE in terms of commitments and verification is better than the deal Trump has signed, but it was what Obama traded off to get that deal that makes that deal worse than the deal Trump is pursuing.

Whilst it made sense to decouple the nuclear issue from Iran's sponsor of terrorism in order to streamline negotiations, Obama did it as a concession to Iran, that if Tehran played ball on the nuclear issue, he would let the mullahs keep their proxies

Being soft on Russia and China so they could play ball on Iran is beyond illogical, there is no perfect illustration that can capture the absurdity that went down here, you just don't get to hide in the lions den because you are afraid of the dogs down the street.

Obama sees himself as the gold standard, whomever is with him is good, and whoever differs from him is Bad. An investigation should be had on who gave him the gold medal.
Obama: Republicans like Mitt Romney and I shared the same values.
Obama’s running mate Joe Biden, to a crowd with hundreds of blacks in 2012: Romney’s "gonna put y’all back in chains."
The Constitution is full of phrases like, "'Congress shall not...no law shall be passed.’ It's not about what the government will DO for you" says @robkhenderson.
It's about how "government is not going to interfere in your lives."
More reasons America thrived for 250 years:
You become more fiscally conservative as you get older because you’ve had more time to watch your federal government fail to solve any problems despite taking in trillions of dollars in revenues per year.
You’ve watched the private markets deliver life-changing technologies that bring the entire tide up, all while these hypocrites and fools bark the same nonsense year after year, and somehow cannot manage to deliver anything but massive deficits, finger pointing, and divisive rhetoric.
In this post, Warren transfers nonsense from her brain to her thumbs, and through the magic touch-screen slab to tell you that she’d be able to do something with a few billion more dollars that her and her colleagues haven’t been able to do with a multi-thousand-billion dollar annual budget for years and years.
What is the meaning of her post here? There is no meaning. It is meaningless. The intention? To stir emotions in anyone who isn’t aware of the obvious things I’ve written here. To manipulate and gain the support of sheep.
If you actually think revenue is the bottleneck for government output, you lack basic financial literacy and are being conned by con artists.
