Today is #NationalAgDay. But that’s every day to farmers and ranchers who grow our food, fiber and fuel. They care for their livestock and are committed to protecting the land and natural resources.
We often boast that everything is bigger in Texas. That’s true when it comes to agriculture, too.
The state’s varied climates and soil types enable farmers to grow a wide selection of crops, including grains, fiber, timber, fruits and vegetables. Texans are especially well-known for raising cattle, but sheep, goats and poultry are major sectors of the Texas agricultural economy, as well.
Farming and ranching is a demanding profession. It’s risky, and it sure isn’t easy.
But it’s the satisfaction of a hard day’s work and of doing something for others. Fulfilling dreams. And facing the uncertainty with faith and optimism. Farmers and ranchers are the beating heart of Texas agriculture. And our future.
Communities across Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas are facing significant wildfires, and our hearts are heavy for those who are in the path of devastating destruction.
Meet Colby and Ashley McClendon! They grow corn, oats, wheat, sorghum, soybeans and hay. They are the sixth generation to operate the family farm in Collin County.
The couple also raise cattle and sell their beef through their meat market located on their farm. And they’re expanding into vegetable production, too.
The McClendons are finalists in our Outstanding Young Farmer & Rancher contest. We'll announce the winner during our Annual Meeting this weekend!

Thank you, District Administration. This was such a wonderful surprise on my last day of school, and a great way to start the summer full of making even more connections in the work I will do over the next months, and in the future.

When snow falls in Texas, farmers and ranchers don’t flake on their responsibilities. In fact, they have more work to do.
Snow days bring unique challenges, but it's all in a day's work. Even the next generation bundles up to lend a hand, learning what it takes to care for the animals and the land. Because when it comes to ranching, responsibility never takes a snow day.

No trick. Texas pumpkins are a treat! Carve out some fall fun on #NationalPumpkinDay, and take a bite out of some pumpkin facts:
🎃The majority of pumpkins grown in Texas are used for decoration.
🎃There’s a Pumpkin, Texas in San Jacinto County.
🎃Floydada, Texas is known as the Pumpkin Capital of Texas.
Farm dogs: They come in different colors and sizes, but each one is FURever faithful! And we’re howling praise for all the farm and ranch dogs on #NationalDogDay!
Texas fields and pastures make a pretty backdrop for photos, but it’s important to remember that the land, crops and livestock are the livelihoods of farmers and ranchers.
Whether you’re doing it for Instagram, TikTok, to get the perfect selfie or that beautiful family photo, fields of sunflowers aren’t a free pass to trespass.
