@Papapishu it's wild the number of battles that were being fought in the 2000s, like with the precise details and predictions and worries about personal data and privacy, that people are tuning into now like "oh no!" friends, we lost that shit 20 years ago. we fucking tried where were you
@_alialkhatib i'm bracing myself for the first time i hear someone remotely politically sane opining "well at least they [the fascists] are incorporating AI, so there's some hope for us!" if only the pre-Trump gets in problems went away after Trump gets in
@peligrietzer yes. there actually are useful discussions to have about whether globalized democratic society is possible, etc etc etc, but the reason why the things that pass for "best idea we have" pass that way are generally, precisely, what you're saying re: violence and political support.
@Matt_Volk@Papapishu nuts that trump, obviously unqualified and extremely unlikable, beat clinton because americans hate women that much, and now he might lose because he's gotten americans to hate him even more than (particularly Black) women--who they continue to hate as much as ever. ugh.
@VeraDrew22 this review makes me think "all decent or better Hollywood movies are trans narratives" and also "all decent+ Hollywood movies are addict narratives" because drama requires character change and these (more than "learning") are terms that accurately describe real motivated change
@peligrietzer@Eidolonist I like it very much, especially the idea that trivial-but-intractable structure underlying the state of knowing a vibe is fine with an origin story for vibes on hand. I would love to argue with particulars, but I would need to put in much more effort(:. thanks for the indulgence
@peligrietzer@Eidolonist and such things are always only ever good, since if you want to press at the implications of systems ideas, you need good explications of fundamental concepts in those systems (like vibes in cognition) to meaningfully push and find virtues and costs. 2/2
@peligrietzer@Eidolonist what facts and representions are. they're are both always situationally defined, not plottable on a graph. the output qua full blooded output has something else that the input never has (use, other interpretive circumstances). but this is just fun 2/2
@peligrietzer@Eidolonist for fun re: this, "We will call [..] inputs for which [..] autoencoder S has zero reconstruction error, in this spirit, S’s ‘canon.’" is where we Wittgensteinians get upset, because recognition that output A truly reconstructs input B assumes the (IMO wrong) conclusion about 1/2
@peligrietzer@Eidolonist re definitely more, I don't mean there's more to the story than your account, I mean there's more to the story of your account to answer my question but like, that's why ppl write articles and get familiar with surrounding literature
@peligrietzer@Eidolonist that makes sense but there's definitely more to the story (:. but this is obviously asking too much for a tweet, and i suspect I lack a lot context / "we all agree that X" that might answer my further questions. e.g. said cog arch can model for whom to do what? etc
@churchlady320 @OrinKerr Scalia was surprisingly pro 5A (surprising if you're left wing and not overly familiar with constitutional law generally). not a surprise when Scalia comes up in rights of the accused
@bearmccreary@MuseZack@mfrost11@RealGDT pretty insane to check twitter in between BSG episodes and see not only this insane fact from Mark Frost but also this comment. internet works sometimes....
