Standard gap-based #LeafAreaIndex (LAI) algorithms are statistically sub-optimal. You can address their known limitations with binary regression though.

@wes_bonifay @betanalpha After 6 months I got a rejection from an editor that said “I couldn’t find anyone willing to review your paper so it must not be that interesting”. Sent it somewhere else and that paper has over 700 citations!!
