@elonmusk It is so silly to make the fight against “gain of function” research when what I think you’re really opposed to is virus modification when it makes the virus worse, correct? That isn’t necessarily always due to gain of function - sometimes that’s due to loss of function and
@austinreforms@JenRobichaux I think it makes the most sense to compare what the district actually spends per students with money that stays in the district. Also, I would argue that Austin’s poverty rate would be significantly higher if it were adjusted for cost of living, but it is not.
@KendallGPace I’d argue that if the “economically disadvantaged” designation were adjusted for cost of living, Austin ISD’s percentage would be a lot closer to Houston’s and the performance of those students would likely change too.
@smarkstrickland@LoewyLawFirm The difference between Austin ISD spending and Dallas ISD spending is very small. Interesting, then, if we’re going to say Austin & Dallas having similar COL, that in the same year as the attached graph, AISD had to pay $770 million in recapture & Dallas ISD paid only $60 million
@smarkstrickland@LoewyLawFirm Why are we pretending like the cost per pupil spending in Austin should be the same as the cost per student spending of a kid in say, El Paso, when the cost of living in Austin is around 30% more than El Paso (just as an example)?
@KendallGPace The “economically disadvantaged” label is based on % of students eligible to receive free/reduced lunch, correct? Which is not adjusted based on cost of living. So, we’re pretending like an income of $50k in Austin is the same as income of $50k in el paso?
@pjakcoker_patty@JeramyKitchen It seems like it would make more sense to have everyone test on grade level anyway? Math being done this way obviously skews the numbers and creates a false picture of how the grade level is doing. You’re basically just eliminating the high performers from 7th.
@KendallGPace@statesman@AustinISD@HeathKeri Why is cost of living not factored in more in regard to per pupil spending? How is it fair to compare Austin’s per pupil spending to Dallas and Houston when Austin has a much higher cost of living? Would love more info on this if you have any.
@LinkedGlenn@LoewyLawFirm But if we paid the same taxes we are paying now and didn’t send any money to the state and didn’t take any money from the state, we wouldn’t have a deficit, correct?
@LinkedGlenn@LoewyLawFirm Austin ISD could fund its own budget plus the deficit w/ 0 help from the state if there was no recapture, correct? Seems crazy. The recapture formula disproportionately punishes Austin for being “property rich” but doesn’t take those factors into account w/ per pupil spending.
@Symply_rhoda1 Instant, immediate unbelievable relief. Like, I HATE being pregnant. I get preeclampsia every time. But never in your life do you experience such immediate relief like you do after birth. I remember thinking I felt like I could do a back handspring (I do not know how to do a BHS)
@atrupar Arguing that age should determine level of health care coverage is crazy. It’s nice to assume you’ll stay healthy just bc you’re young but that puts people in terrible situations when something bad happens. My 5-year-old was “healthy” until the day he was diagnosed w/ cancer.
@MrPocketPYG @liberal_jamie@LisasFineLines If this were real it doesn’t even say she had the questions. Just samples lol. And that she made requests for a smaller podium (duh) & fact ✅ing (thank god). On the flip side, DT’s team requested mics off when not speaking which KH’s team did not want. They both made requests.
@BradUtah3 @schisthouse @VoteHarrisOut The questions were about: the economy, abortion, foreign policy and the environment. If he wasn’t prepared to speak on those topics then he isn’t paying attention.
@robsmithonline What he is describing is what happens when a woman is forced to deliver a baby that is not compatible with life and has to watch it die. This is actually exactly what pro-lifers are asking for when they don’t allow abortions for medical reasons.
@kelaro180@JoshWalkos@free_popi What he is describing is what happens when someone is forced to deliver a baby that is incompatible with life. This scenario is actually exactly what pro-lifers want. Forcing babies who are known to be incompatible with life to be born, just to die.
