Good afternoon Twitter, X now lol, it’s been awhile since I’ve posted! The biggest update I have is that I was blessed with the birth of my daughter Sydney Renee on 1/20/24! 🥰
As exciting as this was, I want to share my birth story as it relates to importance of advocacy.
I recognized my 5 year old cousin on the news when she said her name, right before she told the reporter that she’s hungry and hasn’t had a meal in 2 weeks.
I’m walking into my clinic rn, where I can’t talk about any of this out loud.
Give me a wellness module for that.
@WomenSurgeons@kc140605@EHammond30@SarahLandau10 I think it is really important to continue the things that bring you joy, and that make you you. You definitely won’t be able to do them as often but I would try to make monthly goals based on the rotation I was on or my schedule
@WomenSurgeons@kc140605@EHammond30@SarahLandau10 Would definitely echo having goals. Outside the OR, make sure to stay on top of everything happening with your patients - this will allow you to make more thoughtful plans and demonstrate to the rest of the team that you can handle more responsibilities
@WomenSurgeons@kc140605@EHammond30@SarahLandau10 It is really important to keep patients and families updated as plans evolve. Even when nothing significant happens, families usually appreciate being kept informed depending on their level of involvement
@WomenSurgeons@kc140605@EHammond30@SarahLandau10 For patients it is helpful to introduce yourself and clarify your role on the team. It is also important to know their overall care plan as that is what they often ask about and what they are worried about
@WomenSurgeons@kc140605@EHammond30@SarahLandau10 Would also recommend setting expectations with team members at the beginning of each rotation and clarify their communication preferences- especially with chiefs!
FGLI immigrant to full Professor of Clinical Surgery @pennsurgery. A little the worse for wear during the journey but I made it! Thanks to my family, colleagues, residents, and friends everywhere. #HBCUMade
