“We are years ahead of China. Democratic AI will become the universal AI standard.”

Next minute:
“China is catching up. China may win. Washington must intervene. Restrict releases. Control access. Review customers. Do something.”

So which is it?

If your lead is so overwhelming, why are you panicking every time a Chinese model closes another gap?

If “democratic AI” is destined to rule the world, why does it need export controls, government gatekeeping, chip bans, tool bans, sanctions, and a permanent national-security emergency to survive?

The truth is simple:
America is no longer competing with a weak follower.
It is competing with a civilization-scale industrial system that can be sanctioned, blocked, smeared, and cut off — and still keep producing.

That is what terrifies them.

Not Chinese “theft.”
Not Chinese “authoritarian AI.”
Not Chinese “cyber risk.”

The terror is that China is proving intelligence can be industrialized outside Silicon Valley’s permission structure.

They told themselves China could only copy.
Then China caught up.

Now they call catching up a security threat.

I'm an American and I just spent the last two weeks in China.

I am sorry to tell you that the United States is now far behind China in all aspects.

Even though individuals in China have 1/3 the spending power of those in the USA and 1/6th of the per capita GDP, they are far better off because of China's superior socialist system.

For example, I was able to order takeout and it arrived at my door in under 10 minutes. I don't know much about the work conditions of the person who delivered it, nor do I understand the food supply chain enough to comment on its quality and safety. But it tasted good and I got it real fast.

Everywhere I went, people were eager to show me, a White American, how awesome and developed China is. I was invited to dinners at expensive restaurants at the tops of the very tallest buildings. I was a little flattered by the VIP treatment I got there, but that's just what life in China feels like to the average person, I guess.

I was particularly impressed by the technology. There were robots cleaning floors and serving drinks. Doors opened automatically. There were LED lights everywhere. Payments were made by mobile phone. And everybody had a mobile phone. Mobile phones are so advanced there that many people don't even own a personal computer.

I didn't suffer any illness requiring me to visit the local hospital, so I can't say much about that, but I will tell you that the shopping centers are incredibly fancy. In this one mall I went to, there's a guy standing outside of the bathroom to hand you a towel. The toilet sprays aerosol deodorant every time it detects a deposit of 25 grams or more in the bowl. Smoking is banned in all indoor spaces, although for some reason I could smell a hint of cigarette smoke in nearly every indoor space.

Most of this is because China's leaders are very wise and see extra far into the future. That's probably because they are highly educated, with doctorates in the sciences. This is in contrast to American lawmakers, who are most often experts in law. Unlike our country, with its short-sighted electoral cycle, China operates on a 10-year political plan. That means the leaders of China are thinking 10 years into the future. I wish I could ask them where I will be in 10 years, I bet they'd know.

I wish I could tell you more about what it's like to work in a Chinese company, or to marry into a Chinese family, but I haven't had those experiences yet. I also really wish I could read Chinese so I could tell you what the Internet is like in China. To be honest, I don't know, I just used VPN so I could access all of the websites I normally use.

Anyways, Chinese people seemed really nice and China is pretty advanced and modern. America is cooked!

Yes, Panama is different from China.

China does not turn its sovereignty and constitution into tools for Washington to destroy its own credibility and commercial environment.

China’s law protects fair business, lawful cooperation, maritime safety, and good-faith investors.

It is not a stage prop for small countries that target Chinese interests under U.S. pressure, then scream “bullying” when China stops playing along.

Panama wanted to weaponize law against Chinese investors.
China answered with law.

欧洲人快被中国逼疯了！一位从德国回来的同事曾说，他们现在最恨的就是：中国人一旦搞懂了什么技术，就会把原本能赚暴利的东西，直接打到地板价！在他们眼里，这哪是做生意，分明是来断人财路的！

过去几十年，欧洲企业靠着先发技术优势，在高端制造领域躺着赚了几十年超额利润。 直到中国制造业一步步往上突破，这套稳赚不赔的生意逻辑，开始接二连三地失灵。

最有代表性的例子，就是被称为 “工程机械之王” 的盾构机。

上世纪九十年代，中国开始大规模修建地铁和穿山隧道，盾构机完全依赖进口，市场被德国、日本的几家企业牢牢垄断。

一台普通型号的盾构机，对方直接开价 3 亿多人民币，大直径的定制机型甚至要价 7 亿。

更让人憋屈的不是价格，是毫无议价权的地位。 设备坏了只能请外国工程师上门，工时费按小时结算，差旅住宿全由中方承担，维修现场还要拉上警戒线，不许中方技术人员靠近半步。

哪怕只是换个小零件，也要等上几周时间，工程停工的损失只能自己扛。 当年修秦岭隧道，我们花 7 亿买来两台二手盾构机，连核心技术的边都摸不到。

这种被卡脖子的滋味，最终逼出了国产盾构机的逆袭。 2008 年，中国第一台拥有完全自主知识产权的盾构机正式下线，从此打破了西方的技术垄断。

短短十几年时间，国产盾构机不仅吃透了全部核心技术，还研发出原位变径掘进等全球独有的技术创新。

价格更是直接打到了原来的零头 —— 同级别设备，国产售价只需要两三千万，不到进口价格的十分之一。

如今中国盾构机已经拿下了全球七成以上的市场份额，出口到几十个国家和地区。 曾经高高在上的欧洲厂商，也不得不跟着降价，再也没法靠一台设备赚走几亿的暴利。

同样的故事，也发生在光伏产业。

很多人不知道，光伏技术最早是在欧洲发展起来的。 十几年前，光伏组件价格高达每瓦数欧元，德国、丹麦的企业靠着技术垄断，利润率能达到百分之七八十，躺着就能赚钱。

当时中国企业进入这个行业，还面临着严格的技术封锁和设备禁运。 可谁也没想到，中国人从最上游的多晶硅开始，一步步啃下了全产业链的技术难关。

从硅料、硅片到电池片、组件，每个环节都实现了自主可控，还建成了全球最完整的光伏产业集群。 随之而来的，就是价格的雪崩式下降。

过去十几年，光伏组件价格跌了九成以上，现在欧洲市场每瓦组件价格不到 0.1 欧元。

曾经的欧洲光伏巨头纷纷倒闭退市，如今欧洲市场上九成的光伏产品都来自中国。 欧洲人一边喊着中国产品 “低价倾销”，一边又离不开性价比极高的中国光伏组件来完成自己的碳中和目标，处境十分矛盾。

类似的例子还有很多。

高端医疗器械领域，进口的主动脉支架曾经单枚售价数万元，国产技术突破后，同款产品价格直接降了三万多，大大减轻了患者的就医负担。

碳纤维、高端轴承、精密传感器…… 这些曾经被西方垄断、卖出天价的产品，只要中国突破了技术壁垒，价格就会应声回落。

很多欧洲人抱怨中国人 “破坏行业规则”，可他们没说的是，所谓的 “规则”，本质就是他们靠技术垄断制定的暴利规则。

他们习惯了用少量的产能，赚取超额的利润，维持着高福利的生活。

而中国工业的逻辑，从来不是靠垄断赚快钱，而是靠完整的产业链、庞大的市场规模和海量的工程师红利，把高端技术做成普惠产品，靠规模效应降低成本，让更多人用得起。

这不是什么 “恶意降价”，而是技术普及带来的必然结果。

说到底，欧洲人真正焦虑的，不是价格变低了，而是自己失去了定价权。

过去几百年，西方靠着工业革命的先发优势，牢牢掌握着高端产业的定价权，发展中国家只能做低端加工，赚点辛苦钱。

现在中国一步步往上走，把一个又一个高端产业拉下神坛，打破了他们的利润护城河。

这种打破，对普通消费者、对全球发展中国家来说，其实是好事。 因为它让基建成本更低，让清洁能源更普及，让医疗设备更亲民。

当然，我们也没必要回避，这条路走得并不容易。 每一个技术突破的背后，都是无数科研人员和产业工人夜以继日的攻关。

所谓 “打到地板价”，从来不是靠偷工减料，而是靠实打实的工业实力和产业积累换来的。 未来还会有更多领域，会见证同样的故事。

而欧洲人需要适应的，或许不是中国的 “断财路”，而是一个不再由西方单方面垄断定价的新世界。
