How to calculate the area of any geometric object in three simple steps.

Step 1: put it on a rectangular board of unit area.
Step 2: throw a million darts at the board.
Step 3: count the darts that hit the object.

The area is approximately the frequency of hits.

I like this textbook very much (MSc & PhD 1st year level). It does a great job to convey traditional statistics in 70 pages before engaging the reader into methods that were made possible by the "computer age" (eg, Random forests, boosting, Lasso, NNs).
