It’s been a diverse week on the farm. This week we’ve harvested oriental mustard, canola, peas, winter wheat, malt barley, and spring wheat. Finally passing the halfway done mark. Weird year-most crops are decent despite the heat and drought.
It got cold. 1st picture in the yard 25 degrees. Second picture ground level in soybean field 35 degrees, 3rd picture 1 inch underground 34 degrees, 4th picture 2 inches above ground 30 degrees. I think the beans that are up will make it. Planted the 12th of April.
Our farms around Greenfield got thumped pretty hard from yesterday morning’s storm. Not all this bad, but areas bad enough to warrant replanting next week. May 17 & 19th planting dates. Power poles were snapped North of Palmyra from the 70 mph+ winds #itsnotallgravy#plant22
This is what corn looks like in EC IL after multiple 100 deg temps in mid June and a bit on the dry side for precipitation. Same field looked perfect last Sunday morning. I realize recovery is still possible at this date. But what will be left if we get another round of this?
The #CropWatch22#corn in southeast Illinois is not happy today with temperatures near 100F for a second straight day and humidity making it feel even worse. Most recent rain was a half inch one week ago.
