When #H5N1 news broke, I told @davidalim, “They would have to do a lot of testing before I would drink milk from one of these farms at this point" and got a lot of pushback.

3 weeks later, @US_FDA reported H5N1 in grocery store milk. It'll take up to weeks more to know if these are "fragments," viable virus, and any impact.

Having worked w/ this virus for nearly 3 decades, I've learned to respect it & it's surprises. There are no assurances about H5N1 without data. It's unpredictable and warrants due diligence & prioritization.

Personally, I’ve spent 27 years studying H5N1 viruses. So, I’m going to wait for data I hope is coming soon from both FDA (pasteurization) & USDA (genomic data & raw milk handling). Minor inconvenience to pause my milk consumption while waiting for data. Delayed transparency influenced my decision.

@elonmusk I completely disagree. You are totally wrong. Farthest left is communist. It’s the right that’s gone looney tunes. The right is about violent insurrection and civil war. Left / right is ridiculous. All our choices vary depending on topic.
