Katie's killer, an intoxicated illegal immigrant, was able to obtain auto insurance through a third-party scheme.
After Katie was killed, the insurer denied the claim, alleging it had been defrauded and then walked away.

Eighteen months since Katie's preventable and foreseeable death.

Eighteen months of silence.
Eighteen months without so much as a word of acknowledgment for her or for a grieving father.

Compassion that depends on politics isn't compassion at all. It's selective compassion.
And that's exactly what Illinois families deserve better than.

On the 19th of every month, time stops for me.
Most people see 19 as just another number on a calendar. Some know its biblical symbolism.
To me, it will forever be the day my world ended.
Most people see 20 as the beginning of adulthood; a season of dreams, college, friendships, and an entire life waiting to be lived.
To me, 20 is forever Katie's age.
Those numbers will never simply be numbers again.

Katie's death wasn't an unavoidable act of fate.
It followed years of reckless federal border policies and Illinois "welcoming" and sanctuary policies that ignored obvious tradeoffs and foreseeable risks.
The people elected to protect the public acted less like shepherds caring for their flock and more like wolves protecting an ideology and their own political tribe.
Good leadership measures success by the lives it protects. Instead, too many leaders measured success by political narratives while innocent families paid the price.

What has made these past eighteen months even harder is what came afterward.
No acknowledgment that these policies carried consequences.
No meaningful empathy.
No determination to ask, "How do we make sure this never happens again?"
Instead, Katie's death was treated as nothing more than an isolated act of individual misconduct, as though policy had nothing to do with creating the circumstances that made it possible.

When government refuses to examine its own role in preventable tragedies, it guarantees that more families will someday join this terrible club.

Every month, the calendar reminds me.
Every speech about "compassion" reminds me.
Every politician who refuses to confront the tradeoffs of their own policies reminds me.
Katie should be 22 this year.
Instead, she will forever be 20.
And on every 19th, I will remember not only the daughter I lost, but the preventable failures that took her from us.

Because beneath every policy debate is someone's child.
For me, her name is Katie.

The Third US Circuit Court of Appeals (based in Philadelphia) just ruled 10-5 that New Jersey's ban on semi-automatic rifles and large capacity magazines (more than 10 rounds) is UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

This is the first time that an appeals court ruled that a state's weapons ban violated the Second Amendment.

Unless you are following these things, or you just got lucky scrolling, you probably didn't see anything about this ruling because the lamestream media doesn't want you to know.

This court based it's decision on the SCOTUS 2022 Bruen decision. The Bruen decision stated in part that modern gun restrictions must be, "consistent with this nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation.”

Like I said before, the rifle bans and the magazine bans the Washington state Democrats passed are unconstitutional, and this sheriff will not enforce those unconstitutional laws.
