I had a realization today.
What we Democrats have had to come to grips with is that we mistakenly thought if we could just get our MAGA neighbors and family members to see that all of it is a lie, they would want to stop being a part of a lie and would not intentionally want to destroy our democracy.
On here, former Republicans even talk about how they have now rejected the rhetoric and hate of the Republican Party, so we think all we need to do is wake them from their stupor.
But, in fact, truth now has no value to these people close to us or any other average Republican voter. None. Attacking women, minorities, public education and voices of opposition by their extremist leaders is what they want. If it wasnβt, this race wouldnβt be close.
So, we have to look at our neighbor with the Trump sign in the front yard and come to grips with the reality that our heretofore benign Good Neighbor Sam has now become willing to stand on the porch, arms crossed, and enjoy watching people like me with Harris signs in the yard being lead to a police van and then to the closest detention camp.
The Trumps, the Stephen Millers, Steve Bannons, Rudy Giuliani, Oath Keepers, 3 Percenters and all the rest of the Star Wars bar scene degenerates are only on our TVβs. Abstract. Distant.
But, their hate, their commitment to fascism, dictatorship and their willingness to embrace and commit violence to achieve it will be by either people we know or will be tolerated by people we know. Up close. Personal.
Itβs time we take our moral superiority to 1939 Germany and realize it died on January 6th and conduct ourselves accordingly.
Barack had his presidency, and so will Kamala. Meanwhile, Republican loyalists, Vivek and Nimrata, are sitting on the sidelines still waiting for GOP acceptance.
@shannonrwatts Excellent idea! It would be awesome if each group formed similar alliances... Asian, Hispanic, indigenous women, etc. for Kamala. And the same for these groups of men. Thoughts?
