@birk@iKenndac Yeah honestly I don’t think you need one but could be wrong.
Right now I just use the studio display camera and sometimes the iPhone mounted on top. It kinda needs an update so it’s next on my list
Also have the desk stand from grovemade which is awesome!
I'm so glad we bootstrapped Simple Modern.
The reason why might surprise you.
It's nice to own a bigger % of the company than if we had taken investment, but that's not the biggest benefit.
Because the company is internally held, we don't have to play the numbers game. We aren't hostage to the expectations and goals of an outside investor. We can make the best choices for the company over the long term.
You've heard it said, "In any negotiation, you must be willing to walk away." You can't just walk away from deals once you have expectations from wall street, a VC fund, or private equity. You are constantly pressured to create growth and hit number targets - even if it means making bad deals.
Another example is our commitment to donating 10% of our profits to non-profit charities. How many outside investors are going to be willing to sign up for that? Few.
Because we are internally held, we can do what is best for the company and its people. This is a superpower. The longer I lead Simple Modern, the more grateful I am that we bootstrapped. As a result, I probably have more gray hair, but it has helped us build a much better company.
Studying Picasso teaches you a lot about creativity. Masterpieces can appear like simple acts of brilliance. But behind them is usually a system of constant repetition, experimentation, exploration, failure (and brilliance).
@sama@JackKornfield@Wisdom2conf - they’ve capped their profits, majority goes to non-profit org
- actively seeks regulation of AI
- isn’t imposing their own values on all users, wants democratic rule and individual choice
- and much more
Very cool to see
Didn’t know @sama was so into meditation and a student of @JackKornfield - encouraging to see the heartfulness and focus on greater good that goes into OpenAI.
Great interview at @Wisdom2conf today
Just launched a step-by-step tutorial for Dream Mapping.
Fun to make, hopefully fun to use.

@tmrohan single founder here, completely agree
i've learned i have to:
• be brutally honest about what i'm bad at
• really listen to my employees when they're trying to help me grow
• have a strong emotional support system outside of work
when it works it *really* works.
10 year ago single founders were frowned upon.
Today, single founders are respected as much as a team of co-founders.
Both single founders and founding teams have strengths, and weaknesses.
This equal respect is overdue.
