Another fun day using Scratch to show a deep understanding of Sum of Squares. First 3 pics are the prompts for Ss and the code I made to use as an example - last pic is the student work that puts my code to shame!😅 @scratch@dsbn#thinkingclassroom#MTH1W
Look @MapleLeafs it’s already been tough becoming a fan by association and consistently getting heartbroken in the playoffs… but now your sponsor is milk??? MILK???? please 😩😩😩
Had fun introducing @scratch coding today with some homemade magnets. Each group coded instructions for solving a dif power rule and we combined them online as a class to show the whole problem solving process! #ThinkingClassroom@dsbn#MTH1W
@richroll So cool that you saw this! If you ever want a high school science teacher trying to inspire peace, plants and enlightenment on the pod - let me know! 😂
S’s asked when we are going to use expanding binomials in real life. My answer? Maybe never. We finished our lesson then switched to a @hubermanlab@richroll podcast about how doing hard things with intense focus grows our brain, and that’s reason enough to expand binomials!
Today I played 24 for the first time with the few students who braved the weather to make it to school today. It was so fun and engaging, I’m making it a permanent feature in my classroom!
@mikeinthevalley I wondered about this too! How many are answering that they want no restrictions thinking “I want to go to a restaurant with my family” vs. thinking “We should abolish all vaccination mandates”, and how did earlier questions influence this?
@mikeinthevalley Also, I read some other tweets that said if stratified sampling was used it means it’s still good data, as if incredibly small sample sizes aren’t inherently problematic. I think it will make a great class discussion!
Can’t wait to use this during our stats unit in grade 11 math! What could possibly be wrong with quoting “54% of Canadians say…” when only 1688 people were asked 💀 We can brainstorm the type of biases. Can’t wait!
I collected feedback this week about the new destreamed grade 9 math course from students, and got this, which made my whole week!
So proud of this group’s resilience to my trials and errors and the craziness of this semester. Can’t wait to teach it again semester 2! #mth1w
Introduced @scratch today by providing a code to replicate and had students extend it based on Ontario driving laws. My grade 9s always make me feel like a rookie when we code!! #mth1w
Exploring variables on both sides of an equation as well as 2 variable problems using DIY mobiles! Lots of different entry levels for this activity 👍 #MTH1W
I tried making my first game in @Desmos: students type in a function that makes the snake eat all the apples. The apples can be strategically located at the roots of a polynomial, its y-intercept, etc. Comments and feedback welcome! #MTBoS

Me: “Let’s introduce @microbit_edu by coding a Friendship Meter”
My students: “Can I code it to sing Taylor Swift after that?” Umm… YES!!!! #MTH1W@dsbn
