Meet Junie, a preemie born at 27 weeks, she spent the first five months of her life in the NICU - and since has experienced more procedures, complications and hospital stays to follow in her first two years than many people face in a lifetime.

40 days ago she was admitted once again for a planned but serious airway procedure - grave complications would follow, she remained on a ventilator and at fifteen days into an already unimaginable roller coaster - Junie’s heart and breathing stopped. She was resuscitated, but unfortunately doctors reached the conclusion that a tracheostomy was necessary in order for her to be able to breathe on her own again.

It’s been day-to-day since - most of them scary and difficult for the Payne family. Junie remains in the hospital - she will have to miss her beloved Moana-themed 2nd Birthday party next Tuesday.

Instead, Junie’s parents are asking friends and family to celebrate in her honor by wearing their favorite Hawaiian or Moana themed attire on June 6th and share photos in support with the hashtag #JunieStrong.

In the same spirit that pulls Moana to leave the island for adventure, and with the strength Moana finds to fight for her people - Junie fights to put these hospital stays behind her. Even exhausted, in pain, in a hospital gown and surrounded by machines - Junie summons every bit of energy in her little body to sing. “I am Moana!” Her purpose is bigger, a hospital patient isn’t who she is - she is #JunieStrong.
