In relation to statements and media reports referring to the launch of missiles towards the direction of Cyprus, it is clarified that this is not the case and there is no indication whatsoever that the country was under threat.

In this context, the President of the Republic @PresidentCYP @Christodulides had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, @Keir_Starmer, who confirmed clearly that Cyprus was not a target. The competent Authorities of the Republic of Cyprus are closely monitoring developments and remain in constant coordination in order to maintain a full and accurate picture of the situation.

At the same time, President Christodoulides also held telephone conversations with the President of the European Council, @eucopresident António Costa, the President of the European Commission, @vonderleyen, the President of France, @EmmanuelMacron, the Prime Minister of Italy, @GiorgiaMeloni, the President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, and the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in the context of exchanging information and coordinating on the developments in the wider region.

Within the same framework of continuous assessment of developments, the President of the Republic convened a meeting of the National Security Council today at 17:00, with the aim of reviewing developments in the wider region and ensuring the coordination of the competent Authorities of the Republic of Cyprus.

📌 Ανοίξαμε σήμερα με τον φίλο Υφυπουργό, @costaskoumis , την ημερίδα «Η Τεχνητή Νοημοσύνη ως Παράγοντας Ανάπτυξης στον Τουρισμό», που συνδιοργάνωσαν το @DepMinRIDcy και το @DepMinTourismCy .

👉 Ως Κυβέρνηση, εστιάζουμε στην εφαρμογή του #AI εκεί όπου μπορεί να κάνει τη διαφορά. Και ο τουρισμός είναι για εμάς ένα τέτοιο παράδειγμα.

👉 Η #Κύπρος έχει όλα τα χαρακτηριστικ�� για να πρωταγωνιστήσει στη νέα εποχή τουέξυπνου και βιώσιμου τουρισμού. Σε μια οικονομία, όπου η συνεισφορά του κλάδου στο ΑΕΠ κοντεύει το 14%, και όπου ο ευρύτερος τομέας της τεχνολογίας έχει ήδη φθάσει το 15%, η σύγκλιση των δύο δημιουργεί έναν νέο, στρατηγικής σημασίας άξονα ανάπτυξης.

👉 Ο τουρισμός χρειάζεται υψηλού επιπέδου ψηφιακές δυνατότητες για να παραμείνει ανταγωνιστικός, ενώ η τεχνολογία βρίσκει στον τουρισμό ένα πεδίο εφαρμογών που ενισχύει την καινοτομία, την εξωστρέφεια και τη δημιουργία νέων επιχειρηματικών μοντέλων.

Μνημόνιο συνεργασίας υπογράφηκε μεταξύ της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας και του Βασιλείου της Σαουδικής Αραβίας στον τομέα του τουρισμού. Το Μνημόνιο εστιάζει στην ενίσχυση της συνεργασίας των δύο χωρών και στην προώθηση κοινών δράσεων για την ανάπτυξη του τομέα του τουρισμού.

Στο επίκεντρο της συζήτησης τέθηκε η ενίσχυση της συνεργασίας μεταξύ των δύο χωρών στους τομείς της κοινωνικής πολιτικής και της ψηφιακής μετάβασης, καθώς και η βελτίωση του ρυθμιστικού περιβάλλοντος και η μείωση των διοικητικών βαρών, στο πλαίσιο των ευρωπαϊκών στόχων για την καλύτερη νομοθέτηση.

▶ Συζητήθηκαν εκτενώς ζητήματα που αφορούν την πρόληψη και αντιμετώπιση της οικογενειακής βίας, και τη λειτουργία των υποστηρικτικών δομών «Σπίτι της Γυναίκας» και «Σπίτι του Παιδιού», ενώ ιδιαίτερη βαρύτητα δόθηκε στην προστασία των ανηλίκων από τον ψηφιακό εθισμό.

▶ Οι δύο πλευρές συμφώνησαν να προωθήσουν την πανευρωπαϊκή εφαρμογή ψηφιακών εργαλείων επαλήθευσης ηλ��κίας και γονικού ελέγχου, όπως η ελληνική εφαρμογή Kids Wallet, και να επεκτείνουν περαιτέρω τη συνεργασία τους σε ζητήματα ψηφιακής διακυβέρνησης και διαλειτουργικότητας δημοσίων υπηρεσιών.

▶ Τέλος, τονίστηκε ο στρατηγικός ρόλος Ελλάδας και Κύπρου ως περιφερειακών κόμβων τεχνολογίας και καινοτομίας, ενώ συμφωνήθηκε η συμμετοχή της Κύπρου σε κοινή διακρατική πρωτοβουλία με την Ελλάδα και την Ιταλία για τη δημιουργία AI Gigafactories.

A constructive series of meetings with the @qrdicouncil , and leading institutions shaping Qatar’s research and innovation landscape — @HBKU and @qataruni .

We discussed ways to strengthen #research and #innovation collaboration between the Republic of #Cyprus and the State of #Qatar, building on the MoU signed in 2023. Together, we explored practical steps to connect our R&I ecosystems, focusing on shared priorities such as health, environment, renewable energy, smart and sustainable cities, and digital technologies, with #AI acting as an overarching enabler across all domains.

Our discussions also highlighted the importance of engaging the business sector to better link research and innovation with market needs, reinforcing our shared commitment to translating research excellence into tangible impact.

Such partnerships bring #Cyprus and #Qatar closer in shaping a knowledge-based, innovation-driven future.
