If you're struggling in a workout or race, break it down.
Get to the next lap, tree, turn, whatever. Give yourself bite size chunks that you can manage.
You'd be surprised how long you can keep bargaining with yourself to make it to the next landmark.
I have some advice for parents of HS athletes. Even if you disagree with the Coach’s workouts. If the workouts are 100% wrong, your child will have a better experience believing in what they are doing. This can’t happen without your support.

Running even pace is important in maximizing your potential. But learning to feel even pace is the ultimate skill.
A goal should be to run within 3 sec. of marathon pace for a timed mile on a track without the use of a watch. This only happens with much practice. Feel the pace.
Dear Middle/High School Cross-Country Coaches -

The evidence is clear that resistance training / plyos improves performance and reduces the risk of injury.
P.S. It also reduces the risk of frailty, falls and osteoporosis later in the life🦴

This seems so obvious, yet coaches and athletes forget sometimes. CONSISTENT, progressive training for days, then weeks, then months, then years leads to success. If you only run 3-6 months a year, and miss a lot of training, don't expect to be your best version of a runner.
