@10Broderick@CrossanBrendan@MiguelDelaney Point was all coaches of biggest English clubs worked less. Was wrong, McCarthy was in his tenth year. 15 yrs as pro too. 8 an international, couple as captain. Lightheartedly only in Football could you be a professional in the field for 25 years and still be called inexperienced
@CrossanBrendan@MiguelDelaney Interesting point though McCarthy was in his ninth year of management and fifth with Ireland. More than Arteta, Iraola, Carrick, Alonso, & Maresca. Maybe inexperience of life away from football
@FEZ_14@BenjiNaesen GCN+ also robbed you.
Eurosport+ had the same live content for £39.99 per year vs GCN+ £6.99 per month, both owned by Discovery. For the first 18 months GCN+ didn't even have app support for firestick, apple tv etc but E+ did.
You were paying for Dan Lloyd's beers
@tristandross To be fair Eurosport production has been like that for 30 years.
Only a couple years ago commentary would cut out and then they would tell you they had to restart their computer. Think they were using skype
@AaronBastani@rosemeyer1939@skengdr1 They're all already assembled in the UK.
Considering this subject is evidently such a large hole in your knowledge it might be an idea for a podcast with someone who knows what he's talking about such as @carltonreid
@IsabelPat1886@rosemeyer1939@twonoteswivel@AaronBastani You actually want an opinion? Old Tiagra groupset spares potentially sparse, shit chainset, shit cable brakes, shit saddle, shit seatpost, bars prob too wide, shit tape, wheelset prob not robust, shit tyres, shit pedals, prob want 34t cassette for hills. Other than that it's good
@paulmilne@AaronBastani But the point is that government should incentivise behaviour that is beneficial for society. Studies show cycling to work improves health outcomes and saves g'ment £, and that c2w is effective.
Can be improved by reach, access for lower incomes, better deal for bike shops etc
@AaronBastani If anything, people aren't paying enough for their bikes using the scheme (Evaluation of the Cycle to Work Scheme: quantitative and qualitative research https://t.co/FDdD8Sd8yE 2025)
@m40282845@AaronBastani They're all assembled in the UK (or I could delve deeper and ask how you define assembled in the UK) the problem is they're all manufactured abroad
@paulmilne@AaronBastani That's a choice for you. There are many not silly reasons why someone would spend more than £1k that would take too long to list.
(I take it you're not the Yorkshire bike shop Paul Milne!)
@nav7634@jacobtechtavern@AaronBastani It does not. It does tell us that 93% of people who cycled to work before using the scheme continued to do so and 63% who did not previously cycle to work before using the scheme became newly commuting cyclists
@YoshiJoshi_@AaronBastani It's a reasonable question but it would be controversial considering that bikes cost broadly the same amount in continental Europe and North America.
There was an immediate increase post Brexit. Some brands, such as Rose, suspended selling to the UK permanently
@jacobtechtavern@nav7634@AaronBastani I understood.
Per the ipsos poll I linked 38% did not have access to a bike before using the scheme and 74% of all users of the scheme subsequently cycled to work.
Only 6% of users bought a bike over the value of £2001
@richardparke15@AaronBastani Buy a bike and use the scheme without feeling guilty. It isn't mad. Any cost borne by government is multiplied several times by the saving to the NHS. Even if you only use the bike for fun and not to commute
