The thing about leopards is eventually they will eat you too.
Your favorite local restaurant closing because the nice family who owns it getting deported. You thought they were some of the “good ones.” The price of produce skyrocketing even before the camps are built as immigrants flee. Your daughter dying of sepsis because the lawyers feel it’s too risky to perform that D&C.
No more FAFSA for your kids college because you didn’t know that was part of the Department of Education. Veterans having their benefits cut because they rolled back the PACT Act as too expensive. That factory in town that was going to build chips and employ your kids never breaking ground because of the repeal of the CHIPs act. The bridge that was going to cut your commute in half being canceled because of the repeal of the Infrastructure Act.
That sweet government job that you’ve loved because you can work 8 hours a day and fish on the weekends has been slated for a MAGA Schedule F slot because it controls funding for contracts that will go to Republican donors, so you’re fired without cause or any union protections.
You’ll blame Biden or the local Democrats probably. But it will be fine because Elon promised it would be uncomfortable at first but it will get better. You were just so sure it would be uncomfortable for…you know…”those people.” Not you.
But that’s leopards for you. They eat whatever is available.
Friends,
Let's grieve all we need. Grieve for this country and what we thought it stood for; grieve for humanity and how easily seduced we are by bigotry, xenophobia, and a hunger to hurt; grieve for God, in whose very Name so many have embraced depravity.

@graphemeist @tatmia1 @VeryBadLlama If you're in the New England region, I have a free treadle machine that was completely serviced by a great local guy last year. (I've gotten a second one since and can let it go to a good home- just not to anyone planning to junk it for the case!)
I want to make something clear. When you suggest that childless people have no "stakes" in the future of this country, you are telling on yourself. Some people have the ability to care about things that don't affect them directly. I know this a hard concept for some on the right.
@moregreyham I thought I was the last dinosaur! I know how to use Zotero but it's just not how I work... I keep going back and forth about making the switch.
Very excited to announce the discovery of Old English fragments inside a series of book bindings! They come from an 11th-c. Latin psalter with Old English glosses and this psalter comes with a fascinating potential backstory involving a refugee English princess! 🧵
@gbosslet I prefer my middle name. Every time we moved I’d introduce myself by it and it worked for a few weeks until parent conferences, when my parents would say “no, she’s Loraine, not Elizabeth” and I’d be trapped. I’ve always used any name a child tells me in class without question!
We need to get over this idea that the highest good is endless economic growth and maximizing profit for shareholders. Some things are worth doing, worth preserving, because they’re beautiful and good. “Poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.”
