Another iconic photo from the first Palestinian Intifada (uprising) against Israeli colonizers, which started in 1987. This Christian Palestinian woman is Micheline Awwad. She was dressed up for a mass at her Church in her hometome of Beit Sahour, but when she saw the Israeli Army approaching with Palestinian youths confronting them, she joined the protest. Not dressed for throwing rocks at the Zionist army, she took off her yellow heels. With her heels in one hand she threw rocks at the colonizers with the other. She said in interviews later she wasn't aware a photographer took her picture. Young Palestinian men & women rose up using rocks against the Israeli Army, who killed 14,000 Palestinians between 1987 & 1993, which is how long the first Intifada lasted.
