Today, South Bend awarded a $5.6 million contract for Notre Dame Av. streetscape work (Angela Blvd.-South Bend Av.). Project includes curbs, sidewalks, paving, bumpouts, utilities, trees, lighting, and protected bike lanes -- with all crossings raised (yeah, you're jealous!).

Immigrants providing for their families. Salt of the earth, doing a thankless job. Those are the types of people we should look up to in this country.
My heart is breaking for these workers and their loved ones. Too many of the loudest voices out there demonize immigrants, but it's these newcomers working the most dangerous, thankless jobs. It shouldn't take a catastrophic bridge collapse to recognize their humanity.
