@Headteacherchat Im joint AHT & English lead in a large junior school. I teach 2.5 days a week; run interventions 0.5 days, PPA is 0.5 and then I have 1.5 days for SLT duties. This works well for me and this is my second year like this.
@CVPGROUP_@WomenEd I’m really interested in this but probably wouldn’t be able to start until the October. Would the funding for female educators still be in place then and would I qualify as a primary assistant head? Also, is it possible to do the course all online as I’m based in the south?
@DeputyPeake Our two stay at home for around 7 hours 4 days a week but it’s broken up by a dogwalker taking them out for 1-1.5 hours in the middle. Also, looking to take them into school some days but they are fine with being home together
The 'behaviour crisis'
I too have seen a post COVID deterioration in behaviour in schools (particularly secondary).
My thoughts and some strategies/mindsets I have found useful...

My head has also provided an excellent letter to parents to navigate this hard time. No cover from supply or TAs has been put in place. We may be few, but our action respected.
@Mr_P_Hillips We do a class text on Mondays and Fridays - reading a whole book over the term as it’s just read for pleasure on the remaining days. We then do extracts from other books; poems, songs, picture books and nonfiction tues & thurs with a buddy reading session on weds.
If teachers aren't striking simply because they can't afford to lose the equivalent of a couple of days' pay, that's precisely why teachers need to be striking.
@physics_jamie@MissWMiss@NEUnion I know but previous conversations & what we had understood to be the rules regarding cover meant I hadn’t foreseen this outcome
@physics_jamie@NEUnion We were asked to let them know by lunchtime today and at the time I wasn’t aware the legislation had changed meaning that supply teachers could be brought in.
So disappointed - what's the point in striking if I'm to be covered by supply teachers or support staff? Feel like I've lost my voice... anyone else in a similar situation? #teacherstrikes#teacher#edutwitter#education@NEUnion
@LTeacher123 I can’t believe a supply teacher would break the strike and if they did they’d struggle to work with those teachers again. As a retired headteacher I would never get supply in to cover for striking colleagues. We are no babysitters so who is preparing for the teaching?
@JeremyVineOn5 So if you take kids out of school term time it’s a fine for the parents, if kids can’t go to school as teachers are on strike parents lose pay as they have to stay home. Teachers chose their career and striking is not the way unless they have cover for kids attending the school!
@chrisdysonHT@jax_kearney@CensoredHead@HappyHead74@Headteacherchat The law has changed. You are allowed supply cover for strike. And you can ask a teacher to cover classes but they have the right to refuse. I won’t ask teachers to cover. And I won’t book supply. It would undermine colleagues who have the right to strike.
Have to say that I am disappointed in both the @NAHT and the @NASUWT ...by all means vote NO - but by abstaining you have ruined it for those who vote. Postal Strike as an excuse? Well the @NEU managed it with a LOT more members. The teachers could manage it but the HT's couldn't
