Kentucky school districts keep raising property taxes and still can’t keep track of the money. It doesn’t matter if the district is big or small—there is a complete lack of financial controls.

In Greenup County, at Raceland-Worthington, cheer parents were paying hundreds of dollars a month in addition to fundraisers. The district posted a job for a new coach, then two days later said it had discovered a financial problem in the program. Former coach Misty Pack was indicted on charges of forgery and theft involving between $10,000 and $1 million. Now, Greenup County volleyball might be missing money too. A complete lack of financial controls in these small programs points to bigger questions about the district’s overall budget.

Lexington is having the same issues on a bigger scale. Fayette County Public Schools overstated tax revenue by more than $8 million in one year. They budgeted $375 million for salaries and spent $396 million. People were buying things without purchase orders. Officials later admitted revenues and expenses had been wrong for years. Yet they still talk as if the problem is that there isn’t enough tax money.

Louisville is also in trouble. JCPS is facing about a $188 million hole and has talked about selling assets to make payroll. Board members said they didn’t get the full picture. Budget reports were cleaned up before the board saw them. A state audit said there had been no real financial plan for years. Reviewers said the district didn’t even have a clear system for who controlled spending at schools versus the central office. Yet they still took the maximum tax increase year after year.

Stop acting like another tax hike is the answer. Superintendents, CFOs, and school boards need to be held responsible for sloppy books. If they can’t tell you where the money went, they don’t get more of it.

Covington, Kentucky just pulled license plate readers out of a 10-year, $6 million Axon police contract. 4-1 vote after a packed meeting and three hours of public comment.

About 100 people showed up. Overflow in the hallway.

The original deal would have locked the city into body cams, Tasers, AI that summarizes footage and drafts reports, a new drone program, AND more ALPRs. Commissioners stripped the plate readers. Current contract dies Sept. 30.

Police pointed to a 2022 murder they solved with an LPR hit. Fair point. Residents pointed to the 10-year term, weak oversight language, and the Chief getting sole power to grant himself exceptions. Also fair.

This is Axon, not Flock. City says the data stays local. Still: five other Northern Kentucky cities already paused or killed similar street surveillance. Lebanon, Ohio bagged their Flock cameras this week.

People are done being mapped without consent.

Flock cameras, designed to catch more law enforcement officers than street criminals…

Zahir was recently charged after conducting 2,048 searches on the Flock system to track his ex-wife across Kentucky and Indiana for months. His actions included harassment, threats, and obtaining a protective order, all while using the same “public safety” cameras that the department promotes in every town.

The charges against Zahir include five counts of official misconduct in the first degree and five counts of unlawful access to a computer in the fourth degree.

An AI audit eventually flagged Zahir’s misuse of the system, leading to his arrest less than 24 hours later.

This incident is not an isolated occurrence; it is a recurring pattern. The same network that is marketed as a tool to apprehend car thieves and drug runners is being exploited by law enforcement officers to stalk exes, settle personal disputes, and invade private lives.

Given the ease of abuse of this system when the department is monitoring it, it is concerning to consider the potential consequences when no one is observing.

Twin brothers, Donnie and Ronnie Stoner, face a combined 52 charges, including rape, sodomy, incest, sexual abuse, and tampering with evidence related to 4 under age victims.

In 2014, JCPS (Jefferson County Public Schools) received the first allegation of sexual misconduct by Ronnie Stoner, one of the twin brothers from Louisville accused of multiple counts of criminal sexual conduct with minors.

A 15 year old girl told her Fern Creek High School assistant principal that Ronnie Stoner attempted to sexually abuse her in the hallway at school. That allegation was determined to be "unsubstantiated" by JCPS, and Stoner was allowed to maintain his position.

The second allegation came in May of 2022 when a former Newburg Middle School student accused Ronnie Stoner of having intimate relations with her during the 2016-2017 school year. And once again, JCPS failed to act. In November of the same year, Stoner was allowed to return to his regular job duties.

In August of 2023, the first law enforcement investigation into the Stoners was initiated. JCPS took action to remove both brothers from student contact only after Donnie Stoner's arrest.

During the grand jury proceedings, one of the victims testified that the brothers both began abusing her in 2005, when she was 15. Those alleged incidents were at a private school and not associated with the JCPS.

Donnie Stoner worked for JCPS for 10-11 years. He was hired as a Special Education teacher. He was named the head football coach at duPont Manual High School in February 2022.

Ronnie Stoner was a youth/foster care worker. He worked with foster and vulnerable children at Newburg Middle School in 2016-2017. In 2022 he transitioned ito the School Safety Administrator at duPont Manual. He spend years as an assistant football coach/offensive coordinator at Fern Creek High School along side his brother.

Given their years in the school system, and how many children they have had contact with, I am genuinely surprised that more victims haven't come forward, yet.

Newly filed court documents show there are expected to be about 40 witnesses called in the trial. Yesterday's pretrial hearing confirmed a February 2027 trial date.

Both of the Stoners were released on $500,000 bond each (cash $50,000) and have been placed on home incarceration pending trial.

PERRY COUNTY SCHOOLS UNDER FEDERAL INVESTIGATION for staff on student S*XUAL MISCONDUCT and it’s the ONLY district in Kentucky getting this heat from the U.S. Department of Education?!

I’m beyond pissed. While these “educators” are preying on our kids, the good ol’ boy system in Eastern Kentucky keeps protecting predators instead of protecting children. Nearly TWO-THIRDS of Kentucky teachers who lost their licenses between 2016-2021 were tied to sexual misconduct? And we’re just now “investigating”?

This is EXACTLY why parents need school choice NOW. This is why we fight the corruption in Pike, Perry, Letcher… all of it. Our babies are not collateral damage for union hacks, administrators covering their asses, and politicians who look the other way.

The DOE can cut funding all they want, but we need real accountability: arrests, firings, and transparency on EVERY case.

How many more kids have to be traumatized before heads roll?

Kentucky deserves better than this sick system that fails our children daily.
