PhD Candidate Studying Neuroimmune Interactions in Parkinson's Disease | Centre for Brain Research | The University of Auckland | Rustenhoven and Dragunow Labs
So exciting to see this work out. I learnt so much being involved in this project. Congratulations @t_stevenson95 and @JSRustenhoven for all your hard work and the opportunity to be apart of it!
See details below.
1/ We are excited to share our new paper in @JExpMed!

Here we show that α-synuclein, a protein involved in Parkinson’s disease, triggers inflammation at CNS borders and impairs CNS clearance.
In the past year, there’s been major progress in our understanding of how blood and lymphatic vasculature at the brain borders shape waste clearance and neuroimmune connections. Glad to highlight some of these advances for this series. https://t.co/VXItdZDs9E
It's World Parkinson's Day and we still have no disease-modifying drug or prevention for this condition, the 2nd most common and fastest growing neurodegenerative disease.
That needs to change!

Exciting to see this out as part of a great series of reviews on brain border immunology. Thanks to co-authors @JSRustenhoven@t_stevenson95@jonykipnis for their support and expertise.
Excited to share our new review led by @luca_vinnell on skull bone marrow and CNS immunity. We focus not just on what the field has found, but how it has been studied, and why careful model selection and interpretations are essential as this area evolves. https://t.co/zVyWEg6ENG
Targeting the skull bone marrow has huge potential to transform how we treat brain disease.
Happy to share our Preview in @CellCellPress highlighting one of the most exciting and influential papers I have seen in this field.

Pleased to share that I will be recruiting a PhD student beginning in Michaelmas (Oct) 2025 at @CRUK_CI jointly supervised by @Gilbertson_Lab- if you are interested in our recent work, and considering a PhD at @Cambridge_Uni, please see the link below

I am excited to share our latest research out today
@NatureGenet; here we discovered childhood brain tumours instruct cranial hematopoiesis and identify a clinically relevant mechanism to re-educate the skull bone marrow.

Specialised highways at the CNS borders have reshaped how we think about brain clearance, immunity, and disease. Check out our latest review discussing this led by Da Mesquita Lab and with @NedergaardLab https://t.co/ydjHIa2JLR
ECM remodeling occurs in the meninges during aging and following CNS trauma. In our latest work, led by @KateHitpass and @t_stevenson95, we show how this ECM remodeling contributes to the meningeal lymphatic drainage deficits seen in these conditions. https://t.co/Ksc9ZaAW2x
Our paper exploring the antibody labelling signature of neurofibrillary tangle maturity in Alzheimer's disease is out now in @alzdemjournals.
https://t.co/luErcnBDIg
Another important role for the meningeal lymphatic system. Check out our preview of the recent work from Jian-Fu Chen in todays issue of @CellStemCell on lymphatics in craniosynostosis. https://t.co/06KXlbuhCq @t_stevenson95@KateHitpass
Awesome project to be involved in. With Saturday sport a right of passage in NZ, CTE should be something we are all aware of. A nice summary of where we are at can be found in the thread :)
🚨New paper!
Neuropathology in chronic traumatic encephalopathy: a systematic review of comparative post-mortem histology literature

It's a hefty read, so we summarised the data in an interactive @tableaupublic visualisation
