For many people who have never followed the colonization of Palestine, mistruths have become default truth... Threads like this help change people minds. Please share widely:
6 🧵s to make sense of Israel/Palestine:
1) A history Palestinian non-violent resistance
2) A history of Hamas
3) A history of Israel's ethnic cleansing Palestinians
4) A history of Israel's wars on Gaza
5) A history of Gaza
6) A history of Israel’s use of disproportionate force
@RnaudBertrand Good point about the unsuitability of the US to host international institutions given their behaviour. They are the world's greatest pirates
@no1historychick@DaveMilbo You may have been arguing to keep super as it is, and I think that's right. But to be fair it was designed to be given in lieu of wage rises.
@devalara44 Silly comment really. Even if he benefitted before (which he didn't), ending improper and predatory practices in the industry is worth advocating for.
I am shocked at how well this is working already. I was looking for an article which has been miraculously wiped off the internet, but hundred of opposing articles show up in any search, including duckduckgo. Plus major AI language poisoning
This is remarkable and incredibly worrying for democracy. A French government agency detected interference from an Israeli firm in the Scottish Parliament elections, but the UK Labour (friends of Israel) Government won’t release more info in case it harms relations with Israel.
Jillian Segal can’t explain any services provided by co of ScoMo’s fmr sec Yaron Finkelstein who she contracted without tender. Says it’s an “advisory contract”
Pocock “$200k for ad-hoc advice?"
Segal “I didn’t say that"
Then what’s the $200k for?
Peak integrity.🙄 #auspol
@MrRexPatrick Well done mate. It has been a pleasure to see what real advocacy for the people looks like. Please stay active in public life. We hope to hear from you loudly and frequently!
@AaronDodd The ALP only ever strive to be marginally better than the Shit-on-toast party so that many think they should try them out occasionally. The ALP could just be less like the LNP and keep government for generations.
This is a huge story: Samsung and SK Hynix, both massive South Korean tech conglomerates, are studying replacing U.S. chip-making machinery with Chinese equivalents in their China factories, because they're worried the U.S. might tighten export controls in a way that'd render their U.S. machinery unusable.
Very concretely, it means that if those companies were pressured by the US to abandon their Chinese facilities, they'd rather switch to fully Chinese indigenous mode than comply.
Which makes sense: for both these companies, China is both their factory floor and their customer. About 40% of Samsung's NAND and 30–45% of SK Hynix's memory output comes from Chinese fabs. If the US forces that kind of choice, it won't get the answer it wants.
It also highlights how little trust there now is in the US: the media always mention the so-called "China threat" but, if you follow the money, top firms from supposed "US allies" are clearly more worried about the "US threat" than they are about Beijing.
Only a few days separate Gaza City from complete collapse. What remains of life here is falling apart before the eyes of the world.
Desalination plants have stopped, and bakeries, factories, power generators, and vehicles are shutting down one after another due to the lack of fuel and oil. Within days, ambulances and hospital services may completely stop.
In hospitals, injured people and patients are dying because of the lack of medicine, medical equipment, and the resources needed to save their lives. There are no sufficient medical supplies, no prosthetic limbs for those who have lost their limbs, and no wheelchairs for the injured and people with disabilities.
Most essential materials are being prevented from entering. There is no wood, no iron, no cement, and no materials to rebuild what has been destroyed. Even caravans and shelter units are not allowed to enter.
Waste is piling up, and there is no ability to remove or manage it, increasing the spread of diseases and making life more unbearable day after day.
The economy is collapsing, unemployment is rising at an alarming rate, aid is decreasing, and thousands of families are struggling just to obtain the most basic necessities of life.
An entire city is being brought to a standstill before the eyes of the world.
What is the world waiting for before it acts?
If the world can see an entire city collapsing, injured people dying in hospitals, and people losing the most basic necessities of life… when will it finally move?
