@keighleybus@MetroTravelNews What has happened to the 60 and 60A this morning? I am with about 10 others in Rodley trying to get into Leeds still waiting since 8am. Lots of people late to work now!
I met some fantastic care experienced students in my last job in a top uni, I just wish there had been more. Uni isn't a magic solution for everyone, but it can open up huge opportunities- there absolutely needs to be more support for CEP to get there & thrive
'An 18-year-old care leaver is more likely to end up in a prison cell than a university lecture theatre...'
this @FloellaBenjamin article makes for some grim reading, the estimation that it will take 107 years to smash the care ceiling is sobering too. But the facts are that care experienced people make up:
- 25% of the homeless population
- 25% of the prison population
- 70% of sex workers
Yet, the life transforming impact of a care leaver going to university remains clear. University improves outcomes, across the board, for care leavers.
After university, there’s just a 2.5% earnings gap between care experienced people and their non-care peers. Funding access to universities costs far less than funding the range of services that deal with the fallout of our care leavers being abandoned when they age out of care.
As Floella points out, Scotland have led the way on this, trippling care leavers accessing university by establishing comprehensive framework of support. Its time that the rest of the UK followed suit to #EndTheCareCliff

For the 7th year, an independent @UCAS evaluation has found that Y12 students who complete The Scholars Programme are statistically significantly more likely to apply to a competitive university and progress to these unis at a higher rate.
I had a tear in my eye reading this article. A hard hitting depiction of the reality that so many school leaders and staff, children and their parents are facing in this country (and especially in the north of England)
A year ago, I started following how the cost of living crisis was playing out at an Oldham school, checking in with the fantastic @NewmanRC_Head every few weeks. I ended up learning a lot about the British state, and its education system, to boot.
