Today is World Drowning Prevention Day, President Michael D. Higgins has written a message in support of the day and the shared effort that is needed to prevent drowning incidents
Drowning can happen to anyone, but it impacts kids and young people the most.
Since 2000, #drowning deaths in the Western Pacific have decreased by 38%. While progress is encouraging, too many lives remain at risk.
Increasing global investment in measures to prevent drowning in children can help protect millions of lives. These measures include:
🔹Installing barriers to control access to water
🔹Providing day care for pre-school children
🔹Teaching school-age children basic swimming and water safety skills
