Cleaning biz hiring I need some honest criticism
Am I expecting too much when it comes to communication before someone is even onboarded?
interviewed a cleaner Tuesday, sent the onboarding docs a couple hours later, then followed up Wednesday morning letting her know everything was in her email.
Heard nothing back all day. By Wednesday night, I canceled the invitations and moved on.
Now it’s Friday around 10 pm, and she messages me on Indeed instead of the number we’d been texting and called on, saying the background check won’t submit and asking for a new link.
To be fair, I never gave her a specific deadline. But even a quick “got it, I’ll work on it” would’ve gone a long way.
I feel like communication and follow through during onboarding gives me an idea of what to expect once someone is taking bookings. If something isn’t working, I want to hear about it.
Maybe I’m being too quick to move on, and it’s making hiring 10x harder than it needs to be.
I only have 3 cleaners right now 1 team of 2 and a solo, but I trust them. If something comes up, they communicate. They never call out. Prioritize any job i send there way in every way That peace of mind means a lot when they’re going into clients homes.
Where do you draw the line between giving people some grace and trusting what you’re seeing early on?
can only imagine man constantly thinking amazing work tho man you are killin it. I am definitely planning on training / getting a va fully prepared and on the ground running as i creep up on 10k/m even if it does not seem necessary in the moment just have to hold my self to actually doing that.
Feel like I need to sit on booking koala for an hour or two and explore feel like I find a new feature every so often that would have been nice to find much sooner
Had no clue about the booking time log in the booking summary shows me when provider is on way clocked in and clocked out.
Would always just get the clocked in noti and always be wondering if they were done 🤣
@Roy_Banwell Yesssir have something similar although it tracks exactly where they drop off at any step out of the 8 and insta notifies and shows exact step of the drop off and if they press x it offers a $25 discount to push for the completion.
Has been a game changer!
And keep in mind, before this the client was on a weekly cleaning service with a solo individual cleaner. The house was in routine clean condition, but like I said, mainly just clutter in the living room, which could have been pushed to the side since it was stuff being donated to charity anyway. I just feel like I need to have a talk with this team of two. They do a great job, although their cleaning times run far too long.
I have a team of two cleaners that seem to make every clean sound ten times worse than it really is. They always run over the estimated time frame, and they continuously say they have high standards for their cleans and whatnot.
But for example, today it was a 1,200 square foot apartment, three bed two bath. Sure, there was more clutter than there should have been for the initial clean, but it took two of them three hours and they didn't even finish. I feel like this just isn't normal.
Cleaning business: What is the correct way to get a physical location on your GBP without getting suspended by google? Currently a service area business on google.
Update on the meta ads: was averaging $10 - $11.50 CPL switched from using myself on the creative to a girl and as of now CPL has gone down more than half sitting at $3.02 currently 🤣
Leads are very responsive previously many would not respond. I need to dial in my speed to lead / numerous touches after initial touch + getting better at closing in general.
Has only been 3 days so we will see if it sticks daily budget is at $10 at the moment.
How many touches are you sending to a meta lead typically?
Was using my own face for meta ads creative for the cleaning biz cpl was averaging around $10
Going to get a girl to be in the creative for the next campaign curious to see if the cpl drops would be wild if it cuts in half 🤣
Have been seeing @scheduledrop around on my feed. I am in very early stages of my cleaning biz swapping back end would be little to no pain.
Would I be dumb to not make the switch now from booking koala --> Schedule drop before I am in to deep?

Current team and only active team of cleaners I have brought on there pay structure is $25/h for estimated time of the clean although I am actively looking for a new team / cleaner
was thinking about putting a pay range on the job listings to where they get set amount for job and it is just 50% of the clean
How are y'all currently paying cleaners that you noticed maintains quality, speed and keep healthy margin.
Since this post I have optimized pricing more (lowered cost / optimized time estimates)
Used Claude fable to make me a tool based on my teams prior cleans the scope, condition of the homes etc. and how long they took over / under prior time estimate's. and have a pretty good ball park quoting tool that should get sharper and sharper over time.
turned off Thumbtack was blowing to much $ on leads that constantly wanted the lowest number possible.
LSA has gotten better fair amount of price shoppers I need to get better at talking on the phone for sure.
Currently just have meta ads, lsa and organic from website which surprisingly has been picking up a lot for a 2 month old web / gbp.
organic has been saving my ass not gonna lie. Move in / out cleans i get the best margin and highest close rate for deep cleans that are interested in recurring always willing to do whatever it takes to book even if that is at a very low margin to get the ltv. One time deep cleans I don't even bother if i cant at least book them at an absolute minimum 30% margin.
Definitely starting to figure things out, Need to work on getting close rate up and following up harder for sure. Where are you servicing?
Cleaning biz update...
I have quoted a lot of potential customers and most of the time it ends in them ghosting at least 90% of the time 😅
Been going at it pretty damn hard past month have been trying lsa, thumbtack, meta ads, posting on reddit threads you name it. And most people are just expecting dirt cheap cleans I am assuming.
I am in the Houston market and I know there are endless single private cleaners that will do move out cleans on 2500 sq ft houses for like 150 bucks absolutely nuts.
I may have to adapt and figure out a way to get prices down although currently pay contractors around 25/h. or even reduce the scope of what my cleans cover and cut time estimates?
Been about a month now and have only closed 2 cleans and have given way too many quotes to be sitting at these numbers.
