@juergentron999@ToKTeacher yes, reality is mostly an illusion. deep in the abyss of the Planck length lies the quantum foam, where nothing seems to make sense
@ToKTeacher@michaelshermer@Quillette@clairlemon then it is a chaotic, scary and unforgiving universe; if there is no God, no Superintelligence that can save us (if we figure out AI alignment), it's all meaningless and there is nothing at the end of the tunnel, only inifinite void and darkness
@ToKTeacher@peer_rich@PessimistsArc Mr.Brett, sorry, but you often sound like Pangloss from Candide, who used to say "all is for the best in the best of all possible worlds"
@dela3499 i keep thinking that there is something irreducible that is missing, which sets all the complex machiney of agi in motion, and it probably has to do with consciousness and subjective experience
@Liv_Boeree Next century? Liv, aging will not even be a problem anymore by the next century, automation level will be at, or close to, 100% of tasks (including parenting); at which point (surely by 2080), global population can keep growing steadily even with birth rate below 2
@realjoshuareid@TOEwithCurt this is terrifying; the possibility that life and consciousness are an inevitable prison and, consequently, that suffering is unavoidable.
cosmic horror.
