It took fourteen years to build the Grand Ethiopian Rennaisance Dam (GERD). It was not a secret. It is the largest dam on the continent of Africa and it is funded by The Ethiopian Government and The Ethiopian people. Who would deny Ethiopia its own water and power from the Blue Nile? The source of which is Lake Tana in Ethiopia.
The Grand Ethiopian Rennaisance Dam is producing clean energy for millions of Ethiopians and it exports clean energy to neighbouring countries.

Africa has a lower debt default rate than any other emerging market. But, according to a Bloomberg report, Africa pays $75 billion more per year in “prejudice premium” borrowing costs compared to others. This has to change.
I spoke about this at the AIM summit in Dubai (video).
The change has to start with the major rating agencies who overweight the perception of risk compared to the data supported lower default real risk.

#Sudan remains the world’s largest food crisis, with famine confirmed in El Fasher and Kadugli towns, additional 20 areas across Greater Darfur and Greater Kordofan are at risk of famine, and over 21 million people across the country are hungry.
An immediate ceasefire and humanitarian access are a must to prevent further deterioration and save lives!
'Sudan’s war is described as forgotten, but in reality it is tolerated and relegated. Because to reckon with the horror in Sudan is to look into the abyss of regional and global politics.'

The humanitarian situation in Al Fasher and other parts of Sudan is nothing less than catastrophic. World leaders must act to end the indiscriminate killing.
Statement attributable to Mirjana Spoljaric, ICRC President 🏽 https://t.co/1fZOzKjUo6
It’s been over two years since the war broke out in Sudan and created one of the worst humanitarian and displacement crises in the world.
The needs are as urgent today as ever.
The world must #KeepEyesOnSudan.

#AfCFTA#Ethiopia#TradeIntegration#ContinentalTrade@ministry of trade and regional integration
Good news! 🇪🇹 #Ethiopia will launch its first exports under the #AfCFTA on 9 Oct 2025. Shipments will include meat, coffee, pulses, fruit and vegetables bound for #Kenya and #SouthAfrica.
A major step towards building the One African Market!
Congratulations to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia on Gazetting Its AfCFTA Provisional Schedule of Tariff Concessions (PSTCs)!
What does it mean to gazette or domesticate a trade commitment? It is an official announcement that enhances transparency, ensuring that businesses, organisations, and citizens are informed of new regulations coming into force. This marks a key step towards the full implementation of the AfCFTA Agreement.
For traders, this provides clarity and certainty, confirming that Ethiopia will grant preferential tariff treatment to eligible goods upon importation, in line with its commitments under the AfCFTA Agreement.

Finally, the Ethiopian Government, led by its Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration, is holding a workshop to validate and launch its AfCFTA implementation strategy, which was developed with the support of @ECA_OFFICIAL @ATPC2 & the Policy Studies Institute.

Earlier this week, our spokesperson, @1james_elder, met two-year-old Ali in Beirut, Lebanon.
Ali was buried under rubble for 14 hours after his home collapsed in an airstrike. His entire family was killed in the war.
Ceasefire now.
