In 2020, the photo went viral: a young Belarusian woman sitting on the ground in Minsk, her face and head covered with blood. #rfe_rl https://t.co/jgPSpg5ijn
As the last independent institution, I cannot recognize these elections - it would legitimize Russia’s takeover of Georgia. Our ancestors endured too much for us to surrender our European future.

In today’s #vatniksoup, I’ll discuss the Kremlin’s funding of Tennessee-based media company TENET Media. TENET Media is best-known for their promotion of Russian narratives and for strong support for Donald Trump in the upcoming 2024 US elections.

We've passed 100k signatures! That is DAMN impressive and better than where I thought we would be at this phase. We'll still need to reach out to a lot more non-English speakers for gains later, but this is a fantastic start!

The European Citizens' Initiative has launched! This is the biggest and most ambitious chance to create law on publishers destroying videogames they have already have sold to you. Get EU citizens to sign it!

@MortenStostad@gabriel_zucman We should tax land. Land rent is the greatest share of unearned income, and it cannot be hidden, and it is not mobile. Other Pigouvian taxes can also work beside it. @larsiusprime
In the last 24 hours, two of our leading media sources (NYT & WSJ) have produced research pieces with hard data on why the U.S. should ban TikTok.
Here is the NYT's killer chart. Tiktok systematically censors 80-99% of posts on certain viewpoints, relative to Instagram.

I'm excited to finally release my paper measuring religious worship attendance using cellphone data. I tweeted some early results from the paper several months ago. But you can now read the whole thing here:

How many people go to church weekly?
Surveys say it's about 1 in 5 Americans.
Cell phone tracker data say it's actually closer to 1 in 20 Americans.
Fascinating new working paper!

@samueljscott@henrymance No. It’s not a search bar, and most problems come from people using it as such, and not understanding what they are doing wrong.
@jonls_1@henrymance There is ample explanation of how it works. It might be a bit obscure and specific for someone from the outside, but “I don’t understand” and “lack of explanation” is not the same.
@__garbo__ @henrymance@AdamBienkov And most people don’t know how to use these models the best way. They can self correct that code, you have to work iteratively with an LLM, no matter what you use it for. It’s not a search bar or a magic wand.
@__garbo__ @henrymance@AdamBienkov Yeah, but Claude does much better with code. Also, just one generation of these LLMs creates orders of magnitude better products. ChatGPT is old, GPT-4 is much better and it’s available right now, but the next model is close already.
@JonHallin @kingmanuk@NAFO_Hungary And they keep changing it if any strategy surfaces between the opposing parties, so they make it unfeasable. Like making sure you have to run in at least 72 districts out of 106 if you want to run a country-wide list.
