Owners should get away lying about supporting their club with leaks about fake fantasy wages.

With Deloitte's Football Money League report being out -- can we once and for all agree that @CapologyDB never should be referenced again?

1. Besides the Annual Reports filed by each club -- there are no official wage data on an individual level. Capology's numbers are pure guesses made by some uneducated american in front of a computer, probably located in some bedroom, trying to draw traffic. And I am sure them tricking people into believing the data is correct is quite profitable.

2. In the Annual Reports of all clubs, filed with the Companies House of the United Kingdom -- the wage costs for all employees are stated. These numbers are independently verified by an auditor, and if you lie in the Annual Report, you will go to jail for tax and accounting fraud. So pretty reliable.

When you check, the numbers at Capology has -- zero relation -- to the actual wage data in the club's annual reports. It is not fraud -- because Capology write on their own page that it is pure guesses, but you have to look pretty hard to find it.

All numbers in the quoted tweet below from @CWeatherspoon_ (candidate for X:er of the year 2026) are from the annual report.

3. But the correct data in the Annual reports shows the costs for all employees, not only the players, some clubs employ north of 1,000 employees. How much are paid to non-player staff and how much are paid to the players? This was for long subject to guess work, until UEFA in its Financial Landscape Report for 23/24 posted the official figures.

From UEFA's official figures -- based on FFP filings -- we can see that the top 7 paying clubs pay their Non-playing staff the following amount:
-NUFC £50m
-Chelse £72m
-Arsenal £79m
-Tottenham £81m
-Aston Villa £86m
-City £100m (big parts of City's administrative staff are employed by its parent, the CFG)
-Liverpool £121m
-MUFC £125m

This gives the following factual indisputable Player Wage Bill which below also is compared to Capology's fantasy numbers. The Green bar is the 100% indisputable actual player wages. The Yellow bar is Capology's finger in the air guesswork. And the Red bar shows how much Capology got it wrong.
This clearly shows that you get about the same quality information from asking a dog to explain what Norway is as you do when you consult Capology on wages in the Premier League. An octopus would do a better job guessing PL wages than the teenager in the US who actually have made up the numbers for Capology. For Liverpool -- they literary manage to guess the wage more wrong than they get it right, their guess was 148m which was off by an insane 152m.

4. But wait -- is it not all bonuses? Liverpool won the title in 24/25? Sure -- bonuses has an impact. 100%. But look, we have so much data on this. City win the treble one year, finish 4th and exit early from the CL another. Just looking at the wage data in the Annual report from year to year gives you a good view of how big the bonuses are.

So lets look at 23/24 instead. United is in the CL, Liverpool is in the Europa League.

It is basically the exact same thing. They managed to guess Liverpool's wages a little better -- but the error margin is still tremendously big. Capology thinks United has the biggest wage bill -- it was 5th in the real world. Capology thinks that City's wage bill was the 3rd biggest, it was No 1, only with a margin of £50m to the No 2, Chelsea. 😅 Capology got Arsenal's player wage bill wrong with 115m. That is literary 11 players on 200k a week that they "missed".
5. Lastly, for anyone using common sense -- this is not news.

When Virgil Van Dijk signed his new contract in 24/25, Ornstein reported that it was believed that his wage would continue to be 400k a week. Continue to be, as in his previous contract also paying him 400k a week.

According to Capology, VvD's wage however was 220k a week on the previous contract signed in 21/22. Does that seem reasonable? Absolutely not. Can anyone explain to me why VvD in 2021, being seen as a top defender in the world, just having won the top titles, would sign a contract that pays him half of what Adrian Rabiot mom could get for Rabiot from Juventus? Liverpool's revenue is like 40% more than Juventus. Half of what he would get from Bayern? Half of what he would get from PSG?

For all time, every player ever, with very few exemptions, have taken the money. Yet nobody raises an eye-brown at Capology's claim that basically all the top players in the Premier League that plays for Liverpool and City are willing to do so earning 30-50% of what they would earn at the top European Clubs?

If the board can’t handle it they are not right for the club. How is he supposed to have any authority over the team if he has to bow to the board.
