Biologic Medicine Breakthrough

"Researchers just genetically engineered a human hookworm, Ancylostoma ceylanicum, to produce and deliver a therapeutic antibody inside a living host."

Hookworms infect nearly 500 million people worldwide and have evolved sophisticated ways to deliver molecules into their hosts.

This study is the first demonstration that a genetically modified human hookworm can function as a living therapeutic delivery platform.

Future engineered parasites could potentially live in the gut and continuously manufacture biologic medicines for extended periods after a single administration.

And that would be game changing!
