I feel like the entire motto of intern year in a surgical residency is “I see what you need me to do, I understand why you need me to do that, but physically, I do not possess the skills to do so.”
This week I, plus a single attending, covered half the ED with very sick people and multiple traumas. At the end, my attending tells in incoming team, “Can we all give Lisa a round of applause for just keeping the ED alive today?” 🥺 Guys, celebrate your residents like this.
@JetBlue Okay three hours on hold with JetBlue later some human has picked up and been like “so this is where we always put titles goodbye.” After their previous colleague was like “wow I’ve never seen this before whaaaa please hold for 90 more mins.”

me: I just put our patient on amlodipine 5.
Senior: what is this witchcraft?
me: I … went into the chart and ordered them for amlodipine 5?
Senior: … well it’s been a while since I’ve done intern things.
My senior: Can you call pharmacy about this patient? They take amlodipine 5 as an outpatient but we don’t have it in the hospital.
me: … we don’t have amlodipine 5 in the hospital?
Senior: yeah I couldn’t order it!
