@jheilesonRD Thanks for the shoutout Jeff. We've moved most of our posting to LinkedIn now. I'm only really ever on X to see NBA highlight reels now ๐คฃ

Nice to meet the @UOW_VC as part of the Welcome to University session. Glad to hear that she is excited about the concussion and omega-3 nutrition research @peoples_greg and I are about to start with the #Wallabies & other elite sports teams! ๐๐๐ง
Using assessment criteria specific to n-3 studies, the average score out of 5 was 1.48 (n=46). Only 3 studies scored a 4 and no studies score a 5.
RAFO the rest!
Great collaborative effort (@Ryan_Anthony__@peoples_greg@m1kemac) to get this important info out to n-3 researchers!
A review and evaluation of study design considerations for omega-3 fatty acid supplementation trials in physically trained participants https://t.co/51aKGrRKRA
Thanks @peoples_greg and @TeamOmegaPN. This was a real fun study to work on. Plenty of scope to apply similar principles for other professional athletes/teams in the future ๐
Nice to see some real-world translatory #omega3 research. Highlights the importance of background fatty acid diet and #O3I evaluation in elite sport! @OmegaQuant@JPolreis
New study by @AshEArm & team highlights that even with supplementation there is still room for improvement in provision of dietary #omega3 advice and tracking to help young athletes reach/maintain an RBC membrane #O3I within the low risk zone.

Agree. Mixed/confusing #omega3 related outcomes often due to inclusion of studies in meta-analysis that have used inappropriate study design for the hypothesis being tested.
Interesting outcome. Highlights the importance of considering the #omega3 dose and differential roles of EPA v DHA for the #heart. Future work focused on the correction of a nutritional deficit rather than a therapeutic approach is needed.
@Ryan_Anthony__ & team highlight "considerable variability in n3 study protocols". Only 1/15 studies achieved maximal score for #omega3 study design principles ๐ฒ
Future work needs:

Supplementation with DHA-rich fish oil increases the omega-3 index in healthy adults and slows resting heart rate (control: 66โยฑโ9 bpm; fish oil group: 61โยฑโ6 bpm).

Exciting things to follow from @TeamOmegaPN ๐ Seems fitting that our 1st tweet is a reminder to re-read this excellent review of the underlying mechanisms of action of omega-3 written by our own mentor Prof. Peter McLennan (40+ years researching n-3 ๐ฅธ) https://t.co/UL7ITrEMqA
