Are you interested in how fire shapes the seeds stored underneath us? Read our new work in @JAppliedEcology and @ConversationEDU (https://t.co/JXey9q8uio). We found fire frequency shapes the presence of seeds in the soil, related to species traits! https://t.co/MPQmBeon2x
📃 new paper! We got to really drill into the seed biology of this iconic top end species and explore some non-fire focused dormancy alleviation techniques in a physically dormant species. We're expanding some of these approaches to other Kimberly species, so watch this space!
This new research in #ConPhys studied germination physiology in Cochlospermum fraseri: a deciduous 🌳 important to ecological restoration in northern Australia.

Great stuff by @m_just_ and colleagues here in the @conphysjournal special issue on plant conservation physiology. Understanding the hydrothermal limits to germination provides critical mechanistic insight into how plants respond to climate
📚 Myself and @benflips have some exciting PhD opportunities available in the field of genomics and spatial ecology. Please share widely!

I’ve always been suspicious that my sultanas weren’t evenly distributed in my cereal, and now I’ve proved it.
For the last 8 boxes/packs of Sultana Bran, I’ve counted the sultanas in each bowl 🥣. Get ready for your mind to be blown! 👇🤯 #cereal#RStats
Fire cues do not play a strong role in the germination of soil stored seed banks in CTRFs. Disturbances such as treefalls and soil movement by fauna may be more important for germination via mechanical seed abrasion and/or exposure to increased light. https://t.co/WVe9FJmmd9
Meanwhile in Perth we were blessed with an excellent green belt strategy called Bush Forever that has been systematically destroyed by successive governments to now make Perth host of the least tree canopy of any Australian capital city.
A lot of eucalypt forests naturally limit bushfires if they're allowed to mature. We worked out how they do it, and how we can tap into that to mitigate fire risk. 1/6
