Escaped enslaved man, Gordon, also known as 'Whipped Peter,' shows the scars on his back in Louisiana, 1863. The Trump administration ordered the removal of this photo, along with other signs and exhibits related to slavery, from several national parks.
This image, taken in 1863, shows Gordon, also known as “Whipped Peter,” a man who escaped slavery from a Louisiana plantation after enduring years of brutal abuse. The scars across his back tell a story that words alone never could.
After making a dangerous journey to Union Army lines during the American Civil War, Gordon underwent a medical examination where photographers captured the wounds left by repeated whippings. When the image was published, it spread rapidly across newspapers in the United States and Europe, becoming one of the most powerful pieces of visual evidence exposing the cruelty of slavery.
For many who had never witnessed the realities of slavery, this photograph shattered any illusion that it was a humane institution. It helped strengthen support for the abolitionist movement and encouraged many Black men to join the Union Army in the fight for freedom.
More than 160 years later, the photograph remains one of the most important historical records of slavery ever created. It is uncomfortable to look at, but history is not meant to be comfortable. Images like this remind us why preserving historical evidence matters. They allow future generations to understand not only the suffering people endured but also the resilience and courage of those who survived and fought for freedom.
In recent years, reports that this photograph and other slavery related exhibits were ordered removed from displays at some U.S. National Park sites sparked widespread debate among historians, educators, and preservation groups about how difficult chapters of history should be presented to the public. Whatever one’s political views, the discussion has highlighted the importance many place on protecting historical records so they can continue to educate future generations. (Reuters)

Essentially, @OmbetaC has said that Cecil Ouma was EXECUTED by Fikirini Jacob’s bodyguard INSIDE Fikirini’s vehicle with “many bullets” because Fikirini and the bodyguard “feared Cecil.” This is a CONFESSION of murder most foul. Both mens rea and actus reus are made out.
An unarmed civilian is murdered inside the official vehicle of a principal secretary while surrounded by armed police officers and in the presence of the PS.
Cecil had been HIRED by the PS to mobilize the ODM youth for him. There was no altercation.
Fikirini and his bodyguard must be charged. Ombeta can also be charged for being an accessory to murder. They can tell us their fictional stories behind bars—as accused persons at trial.
This is anakonda's close ally. The spirit of ABDUCTIONS, TORTURE and KILLING runs through their veins and dark hearts.
Ex-EPRA Boss' Torture Chamber, former Epra DG Daniel Kiptoo allegedly, abducted, tortured and threatened to kill his former employees at Tarita Group for allegedly stealing from him.
Despite the four reporting and police saving them from the hands of the deadly abductors, nothing has happened to him!
We're living in a country of THUGS and CRIMINALS that are protected by the mighty and powerful CARTELS across, who purport to be the owners of Kenya.
Linda Mwananchi has accused the IEBC of pushing it's staff to procure an Election Management System favourable to Ruto's fraudulent desires.
These accusations should be taken very seriously by all Kenyans.
@IEBCKenya
Francis Mwangangi: For the first time in that region, we saw a harambee in a church where a Member of Parliament, whose academic qualifications are still under contestation, arrived carrying KSh 20 million. What kind of business are people associated with UDA involved in?
This administration is bringing in policies that will ensure Kenyans become very poor ahead of the next election so that the only way they can influence voters is through money and they are the only ones with the money.

Kimani Ngunjiri: We have a problem in Ol Kalou. We have institutions, but they are not working. Now they are stepping in when it is too late, completely too late. If anything happens there, nobody will trust the IEBC because it has allowed the situation to reach this point. We have a very good Constitution and clear legal procedures, but who is using them? Nobody. We have abandoned them.

Buana Sam Gituku has given journalism a lot of hope.
IEBC Commissioner Alutalala Mukhwana has insisted that the commission's teams are on the ground investigating claims of voter bribery in Ol Kalou.
He has gone further and asked Sam to share any footage his team has to aid the investigations.
Sam has then shown him a tweet by Moses Kuria saying the government has provided water to residents of Ol Kalou.
The good commissioner has promised to investigate the tweet.
Mr. William Ruto has spent over Kshs. 1 billion on bribes in Ol Kalou Constituency, and it is not working.
And it will not work!
He has spent Kshs. 10 billion on projects, and it is not working.
And it will not work! Simple!
He is now pushing the IEBC to postpone the election and give him time to splash more money and see whether it will work.
The new plan is to unleash goons this weekend to cause violence and give the IEBC the reason they so desperately need to postpone the election slated for 16th July 2026.
If the IEBC cannot handle a simple by-election, claiming electoral malpractices, how do they plan to convince Kenyans that they can oversee the General Election?
It is absurd that the IEBC has looked the other way as Cabinet Ministers and Principal Secretaries openly bribe voters and campaign in violation of the Electoral Code of Conduct. The IEBC Chairperson is clearly an appendage of Mr. William Ruto.
I have information that Mr. William Ruto has demanded that the IEBC either assure him that they will announce the UDA candidate as the winner or postpone the by-election.
From where I sit, I believe they will postpone the by-election after an orgy of violence by state-sponsored militia.
The IEBC should NOT and must NOT postpone the Ol Kalou by-election.
The people of Ol Kalou are ready to elect their new Member of Parliament and have a constitutional right to be represented in the National Assembly. The IEBC should conduct the by-election in accordance with the law and ensure there is no violence or ballot stuffing.
If the IEBC has no capacity to conduct a single by-election, then Kenyans will conclude that it cannot conduct the 10th August 2027 General Election, and all the commissioners must resign with immediate effect.
IEBC, you must let the people of Ol Kalou elect their Member of Parliament on Thursday, 16th July 2026.
You must not play ping-pong with the rights of the people of Ol Kalou at the behest of your master!
