@2Lib2Quit @phoebemonkey @emkburke verbal autistic people know what it’s like to be autistic much better than parents of nonverbal autistic people, who don’t have a firsthand understanding of what it’s like to be autistic in any capacity. the opinions of neurotypical parents do not and never will matter.
@ann_seal @HugEeyore @SEND_PLIGHT @emkburke as an autistic person, there have been multiple polls and studies demonstrating that the majority of the community does say the same. and no one is suggesting replacing anyone’s name with their diagnosis, that’d be ridiculous. the point is to say “autistic” as our diagnosis.
@2Lib2Quit @phoebemonkey @emkburke there is no “middle ground.” autistic people are telling you what to call them and you’re choosing to try and “compromise” on it. that’s not what respect is. respect what actual autistic people are telling you.
@2Lib2Quit @phoebemonkey @emkburke no. the autistic community prefers to be called autistic. the only respectful thing you can do is adapt accordingly and use the preferred terminology of the community. the opinions of neurotypical people—even parents and teachers of autistic kids—are irrelevant here.
@Chadwick_Moore i’m sorry, chad, but you really shouldn’t have a platform. juneteenth is far more of a thing than anything you ever have or ever will put out into the world. don’t ever compare black people to colonizers. thanks. signed, a white bisexual who fucking knows better.
@blessingmariee@resonance_and_d@QUEENBlITCH yeah, the unfortunate thing with that is that all of those training standards are developed by neurotypical/non-disabled people, so they generally don’t actually reflect the preference of the actual community unfortunately
@isarans hey, just wanted to let you know that the majority of the disabled community actually prefers to be called disabled people, not people with disabilities, so identity-first language is what you should default to.
@MumbaiCentral the majority of the disabled community actually prefers to be referred to as disabled people, not persons with disabilities. i understand person-first language is what is taught but it’s not the preference of most of he community and the majority preference should be the default
@MumbaiCentral for most of us, we literally would not be the same person or live the same life if we weren’t disabled. it is a part of our identity. it’s sort of similar to saying “american person” vs. “person living in america”—identity-first allows us that sense of identity and community.
@Quopphie @YEG_daredevil i know this was well-meaning but the majority of us prefer to be referred to as disabled people and the preference of the majority of actually disabled people should be respected and used as the default terminology.
@birchtreevee well, you’re right that retard shouldn’t be used by non-autistic people (although autistic people do have the right to reclaim it), but person-first language is actually harmful to autistic people and the vast majority of autistic people prefer identity-first language

celibate season will end sooner than you thought. i see it coming unexpectedly. i see sex for some will be an awakening. i see it being a move to reconnect & in doing so, either beginning a journey of liberation or one of masking pain.
@melanatedmomma quarantine has Not been treating me well but i don’t want to sound selfish so i probably shouldn’t go into details. let’s just say my home situation is pretty toxic and i no longer have any escape, among other things. but i’m really glad that people are finding positives in it
