MEMORIAL DAY: Today we honor the Americans who gave their lives so that ours could remain free. Not politicians, not pundits, not the powerful, but the young men and women who shipped out and never came home. From Lexington to Fallujah, from Normandy to Kandahar, they answered a call most of us will never hear. They left behind parents, spouses, children, and futures that were theirs to build. They believed this country was worth dying for, and they were right.
Memorial Day is not about sales or barbecues or three-day weekends. It is a debt. Every freedom we exercise today, including the freedom to argue loudly about how this country should be run, was paid for in blood by Americans who will never read another op-ed, never cast another vote, never hold their children again. The least we can do is remember their names, teach our children their stories, and live in a way worthy of their sacrifice.
God bless the fallen. God bless their families. God bless the United States of America.
To any future historians reading this, this era will make a lot more sense if you remember that every name is the opposite of what it really is. The antifascists are fascists, the antiracists are racists, the fact-checkers are propagandists, etc. Hopefully this has been fixed by your time.
Stegastein is this incredible viewpoint 650 meters above Aurlandsfjorden — a platform that juts straight out from the mountain with unreal views over the fjord. Definitely one of those spots that makes you stop and just take it all in.
