The Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE) has called on the United States government to reject the renewal of its Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Nigeria on cultural property, citing alleged persecution of Christians and pro-Biafra groups.
The group made the appeal in a statement on Thursday through Ogechukwu Nkere, who assumed the position of Prime Minister following Simon Ekpa’s exit.
Nkere appeared before the US State Department’s Cultural Property Advisory Committee during a hearing on Nigeria’s request for an extension of the MOU and the continuation of US import restrictions on Nigerian archaeological and ethnological materials.
He argued that Nigeria’s alleged treatment of Christians and pro-Biafra organisations should be taken into consideration before any decision is reached on the agreement.

Christians are being slaughtered across the middle belt with impunity. There may be progress in the north, but nothing has changed in the Middle Belt where most attacks against Christians occur.

We cannot make the same mistake the Biden Administration made. Biden removed the CPC designation from Nigeria after President Trump’s first term and all hell broke loose on Christians.
