Your scattered mind isn't a character flawāit's your survival system on high alert.
When trauma convinces your brain the world isnāt safe, hyper-vigilance consumes your ability to focus.
Hereās how to help your nervous system feel safe enough to focus again: š§µ
Resolutions for an emotionally healthy 2025:
1. I work on my emotional reactivity. Iāll pause before I habitually react. Iāll notice how confident this makes me.
2. I wonāt over-explain. If Iām misunderstood, thatās ok. Being misunderstood is natural part of lifeā not a personal rejection.
3. I will stop asking for input from everyone before making decisions. Iāll get in touch with the quiet inner voice within that will never guide me wrong.
4. I will never match anyone elseās energy. Iāll practice behaving in ways that Iām proud of even when others are lower versions of themselves.
5. I will stop gaslighting myself. I donāt need to focus on the positive or tell myself other people have it worse. Iāll acknowledge itās painful and that my feelings are validā emotions fade when we stop trying to change them.
6. I will stop making choices for my parentās approval. My life is for me and this will free me from resenting them.
7. When someone is rude to me, I will realize theyāre fighting an inner battle. I donāt fight battles that arenāt my own.
8. I will stop trying to fix other people while I neglect myself in the process. Non-intervention is a form of love.
9. Iāll find time for creativity, play, and just existing. Iāll get more time in nature and in the sun. Then, Iāll notice how my mind gets more quiet.
10. I will express gratitude for the people in my life that make me feel seen and safe, on a regular basis. Iāll pour emotional energy into these people just as theyāve done for me.
If we focused on teaching children the skills to create long term relationships, emotional regulation, and repair after conflictā we would live in a different world.
A lack of emotional education has society stuck in survival mode.
Emotion regulation is like other skills: it takes practice.
After 2 weeks of daily journaling to reframe unpleasant events, depression dropped, life satisfaction rose, and the benefits lasted at least a month.
The best way to improve at managing emotions is to do it more often.
Before a tough conversation, figure out a mantra that can calm you. Try āGo to neutral,ā āThis isnāt about me,ā or āThis will pass." https://t.co/NIkQvQkML5
A study from 2022 found that listening to this piano pieceāSchumannās TrƤumerei (Dreaming)āin between sets or after a workout increases nervous system recovery.
Ice bath for the soul that doesnāt dampen hypertrophy
We have a depressed collective because weāre not told how important it is to paint, write, and make things. Without creativity humans go into survival mode.
When you are young, you keep chasing the next thrill, the next stimulation, the next new experience,
and as you get older, you understand that the best things in life come with enough stability and "boredom":
a close circle of family and friends with whom you can dive into deeper and deeper conversations,
a regimented routine of tough trainings, relaxed reading, disciplined writing, healthy diet, high-quality sleep, that steadily unlock the healthiest, strongest, smartest, happiest version of yourself,
fewer trades, fewer investments, less money-chasing, and more peace of mind, more financial freedom, more time to experience the more subtly great things in life.
The goal isn't an emotional rollercoaster of unnecessary drama and mindless "busyness," the goal is a thrilling adventure of meaningful experiences, compounding wealth, and great stories to share with the next generations.
A great day is simple:
- you wake up around people you love, relaxed, playful, grateful for these simple moments
- you disconnect from your phone, go for a long walk, connect to thoughts you didnāt know you had
- you write your ideas down, one hunch leads to another, you connect more dots, clarify what you want from life
- you keep investing in yourself, hit the gym, read a book, write your book, eat well, occasionally fast, unlearn parts of yourself, relearn some others
- you reconnect with the world without getting distracted, do your job, reassess your long-term investments, stay on the lookout for opportunities that are coherent with who you want to become
- you have a deep conversation with a friend, you deepen your bonds with your family, you make a conscious effort to be kind and helpful to people around you
- you take your shower and go to bed, you sleep well knowing that you did well, you have a few dreams that remind you of how little you understand the reality, you feel excited about how much more you could achieve in the future if you stay disciplined, optimistic, and patient.
People who wake up tense start their days on the wrong foot.
A quick movement session is the best way to free yourself of this burden.
Use these dynamic stretches to wash away the cobwebs gathered overnight.
1-3 sets of 10 will make your joints and muscles happy for the day.
