@Lostlanding Chinese bros. Tell me. How is Ming Chongzhen considered by Chinese history? I always regarded his end as really tragic and sad. Going up Jingshan Hill with Wang Cheng'en, facing each other one last time before hanging themselves overlooking the palace.

@kizilorman1313@siemprevista Their students who go overseas are the ones who failed to get into the top 10 Chinese universities. You have it the wrong way around.
@Trutown Best ending would have been: Reapers noticed something going "wrong" with distant galaxies 100mya. Like lights going out. Their efforts to preserve organic civilization within reaper shells were a protective mechanism. You defeat them but the deeper onion layer is a mystery.
The lack of choice was never the point. Reducing the reapers to just a more powerful version of the Geth was the failure.
It's endlessly frustrating how any critique of the game solely focuses on the lack of player agency.
This fixation on the lack of choice in Mass Effect 3's ending misses the real failure. The Reapers were compelling precisely because their motives seemed vast and unknowable. Reducing that existential horror to a banal organics-vs-synthetics dispute destroyed the mystery itself.
It's because it completely failed to deliver on the premise of the series, that it was a choose your own adventure. It finished off a work of interactive existentialism with "lol determinism ROFL here's an almost literal deus ex machina ending"
@SFrassy9@Nutguy2100 Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love ME1 but the varnishing effect of time and glazing has created a gap between what it is and what we imagine it to be.
@SFrassy9@Nutguy2100 I genuinely don't understand how someone can play the LE again today, trudge through yet another empty planet with four of the stock markers and conclude that was good gameplay. It would have been pilloried if it were in any other game.
Among contrarian autists, 40k is the most overhyped sci-fi franchise. For all its apocalyptic posturing, nothing fundamentally changes, no existential threat ever materialises, and no real jeopardy exists. It's a one-note setting through and through. Totally dull.
@donaldmorganjr Hi Donald. The issue was always the decline in writing, moreso than the mechanics. Writing is seen as a soft skill so it's easy to load writing departments with talentless people.
In reality writing is the most important aspect of an RPG.
