@rjamav@NHSEngland@ClaireCNWL 2/2 The point I wanted to make was that PTSD won’t be the only sort of psychological problem people will be asking for help with due to Covid , people will need help with all sorts of problems like depression, anxiety, psychosis, sleep problems, substance problems.
@rjamav@NHSEngland@ClaireCNWL 1/2 I think we might be in agreement , but misunderstanding one another. I think we both agree that there will be an increase in all forms of psychological distress, including PTSD, from Covid.
@rjamav@NHSEngland@ClaireCNWL My reply was based on my understanding of the psychological impact of previous epi/pandemics from e.g https://t.co/h0Lg3DJb44
And also knowledge of the sort of difficulties people are seeking help for locally.
@hazel_findlay 2/2. I prefer to run on curiosity / growth / fun. But when tired/hungry/cold and joy isn’t flowing then fear of failure, and the drive to have something to boast about can push me on. Is motivational flexibility as useful as metabolic flexibility?
@hazel_findlay 1/2 I wouldn’t want to be too hard on fear of failure, or the maybe related (tbc!) desire for recognition/status as potential sources of motivational fuel. can provide plenty of useful arousal if used mindfully. Lots of downsides to them too as I think you are suggesting?
@ASWhittington @PPNEngland @KSSPPN @NWPPN @swppn@PSelf7@GitaBhutani@SKalsyLillico@SDexterSmith Very much welcome the extra psychological professionals. Don’t like the PTSD spin, don’t think most people will experience post Covid distress as PTSD (unless the system coaches them to do so!)
@hazel_findlay 2/2 but where did my internal standards come from? They are probably internalised (although now appearing as my own) cultural/family/peer group standards, so at that level they are related to what people think/thought.
@hazel_findlay 1/2 Maybe depends on the level of analysis? : in the moment I think many people experience them as different. I sometimes won’t try a problem on a solo bouldering trip because I think i might fail and that would spoil my day. I fear not meeting my own internal standards.
@NpsyN1 Happy birthday: now get to work inventing a neuro thing that allows the subjective experience of time to be sped up or slowed down at will. Mustn’t involve 25 years practice in a cave in Tibet nor illegal substances. At 50 you will start to urgently need the slowing down function
@wendyburn With you on those Wendy. Proper psy. therapy within 4 days requires money to pay for more trained staff. Hypothecated new money or money diverted from other parts of MH system.
@climbonlinecouk Looks like the one that chomped on my car keys (leather tag, left in my trainer) up there one evening.....followed her around for an anxious hour as she chewed her jangly cud. Luckily she eventually decided that even her two stomachs would get no calories from them
@DrDaveSaunders No, not my field (although I know it’s yours). Re-tweeted to advertise the excellent lit searches that our library colleagues offer at TEWV.
