#NTIP2026 | The second day of the New Teacher Induction Programme (NTIP) Rountable Stakeholder Meeting was held in Boksburg, Johannesburg, and continued engagements focused on strengthening support for newly qualified educators.
In her welcome address, Ms Lala Maje of the DBE noted that the engagement formed part of efforts to position the induction programme as an extension of Initial Teacher Education. The session focused on ensuring that teacher induction is structured and responsive, building on existing knowledge while addressing the practical realities new teachers face. Stakeholders reflected on the importance of collaboration, alignment, and continuous professional development in establishing a coherent framework to support teacher development and improve teaching and learning outcomes.
Ms Frieda Walters of JET Education Services presented the project overview and outlined four key deliverables: the development of the NTIP policy and implementation framework; the revision of induction materials for mentors and mentees; the migration of content to Moodle; and the provision of administrative support, which has been completed. The project is supported by established governance structures, including operational coordination with the DBE, a multi-stakeholder steering committee, and dedicated expert and development teams, alongside ongoing stakeholder engagement.
The project is being implemented within a six-month timeline, using a staggered, iterative approach to allow for feedback, particularly in policy development and the rollout of materials. All deliverables are on track for completion by the end of July.
